Who Is This Young Spitta Yogii?
We met Yogii a while back via his joint Authentic which gave us some insight as to the mindset of this young lion and his team. Real lyrical missiles strike with every verse and it’s NOT the same ole thang either! Yogii has an energy and intesity which belies his young years…you know he’s not just spitting some rethoric.
The Hype Magazine got Yogii to weigh in on a few things:
From the outside looking in, who is Yogii the artist?
Yogii: Yogii is a man FIRST overall. Besides that Yogii is a man that stands on morals and principles, I hope that doesn’t go over your head, you feel where I’m coming from? I’ve been through a lot, but not so much that I dwell on it. But I stress being a man first because I’m built according to what I’ve been through. As an artist, for someone on the outside looking in, I express the pains & joys & failures & successes that Yogii the man experiences. I see all these emotions as hues & colors – so my music paints pictures. As an artist, I’m a young Picasso, striving to be one of the greats.
What brought you to the entertainment industry, music specifically?
Yogii: I feel like music is my God-given talent. It’s only right that I pursue that purpose and in unison fulfill my dreams. I’ve been around artists for years and always had the dream of using my talent to its full potential. One day I just decided to stop waiting and take action! If I believe that my talent is God-given, then it’s my duty to use those talents to the fullest. If not, I feel I’d be ungrateful to God, my family and myself.
What do you want people to get from your music?
Yogii: I want people to know my story. Today I’m in a good place in life. My emotions don’t control my actions anymore, but I lived a hard life as a child & young adult. My music chronicles the journey to who I am today. A lot of my peers & childhood friends didn’t make it to this age or have already given up on their dreams. I know there are people out there that can relate to this, that have considered giving up or not striving for greatness. I want them to know they can overcome those adversities and be whatever they wanna be no matter what! People will get inspiration from my music; and confirmation that there are brighter days and you can be successful. I’m a perfect example of coming from nothing. Literally.
Tell us about your current project.
Yogii: The current project is titled, Picasso. Like I said earlier, I feel my music paints pictures. Pictures of the things and situations I’ve been through. So it’s soulful and melodic. You can literally feel the pain in some of the production – feel the hope – the frustration – the rejoicing. The producers on this project are dope. Then, of course, I’m spittin raw uncut truth from the perspective of a young nigga tryna conquer the world. This project is far-reaching & touching. I’ve got YFN Lucci, Lil Baby, Don Ace, Marlo and one or two more surprises on there. It’s a dope project.
For new listeners, what song of yours would you pick as an introduction to you as an artist?
Yogii: They all are depictions of me. If I had to choose it would be Pokerface.
Tell us a bit about your work and passions OUTSIDE of music…
Yogii: Outside of Music, I love giving back to the community. Each year I host a back to school and a Christmas drive for the kids in the area where I grew up. I also am currently working on my Bachelors Degree Majoring in Business Administration.
Last but not least, HYPE wants to know…What’s your CRAZIEST “Where they do that at?!” aka WTF?! moment…
Yogii: I’ll give you my personal FUNNIEST wtf moment. Lol. It’s when a woman breaks wind and acts like I didn’t smell it. Hahahahahahahahaha
