We have another amazing project from the one and only, legendary Missy Elliott entitled “Iconology” and Amazon Music caught up with the icon to discuss the project and variety of other topics for their Rap Rotation and R&B Rotation playlists. Check the official line below:

Amazon Music just debuted a brand-new interview with Missy Elliott for its playlists Rap Rotation and R&B Rotation, the new homes for hip-hop and R&B in heavy rotation.

Leading into Friday’s release of her new album Iconology, Missy sat down for a candid interview, discussing a wide variety of topics, including and the making of her new album Iconology, the new generation of women in hip-hop, and working with Timbaland on her new album. The artist shared how Timbaland challenged her when recording her iconic verses on “Work It.” The legendary artist also discussed the potential for more projects before the end of year, telling Amazon Music “there’s a lot of things that I’m trying to complete before the end of the year. I don’t want to give away too much because I know that when my fans see it, it’s a wrap.”

Interview Highlights:

On women who are molding hip-hop in 2019:

“It feels good to see a slew of women taking over. It feels good because there was a time where there was myself, Lil’ Kim, Foxy Brown, Lauryn Hill, Da Brat, Trina. It was so many of us out at one time. And it feels like that — that wave that it was. And I think we need that. We don’t need just a one-sided perspective of life. You know? We need a man’s perspective and we need a woman’s perspective.”

How Missy and Timbaland continue to challenge each other:

“Timbaland is on ‘Drip Demeanor’ and it’s so amazing just watching him because he truly is a genius. And his cadence, his drum pattern is like no other… When I play something. He’ll most definitely be like ‘no, you should do it like this’ and that’s always been us. And he’ll play something and he’ll go through sounds and I’ll be like ‘oh that’s crazy’ or I’ll be like ‘that’s super wack.’ And vice versa. And you know I think we trust each other because we’ve been knowing each other since high school.”

On Timbaland challenging Missy in the studio when recording “Work It?”

“For ‘Work It’ I’ll never forget. I went in and I was so happy about my first verse and he was like “that’s wack.” So then I went in the second and he was like ‘I mean… it’s aight.” So by the fifth time, it’s the verse that y’all hear. And he was like ‘that’s what I’m talking about!” And I have been like that with records with him too, so we’re always constantly pushing each other.”
