Meet Emerging Teen Actor Lance Alexander

Back story – In 2017, Lance Alexander began taking acting classes in his former home town of West Chester, Ohio, and his participation in a talent showcase sparked interest from both a talent agent and manager from Los Angeles.

A part-time move to L.A. led to commercial bookings for Boost Mobile, Anchor Hocking and Michael’s “Slime Make Off” starring Busy Phillips and Nick Cannon. His television bookings include roles on Disney’s “Raven’s Home and Teachers” on TV Land. Currently, he can also be seen in the recurring role of Elvis on the award-winning Netflix comedy Family Reunion, starring Loretta Devine, Richard Roundtree, and Tia Mowry as well as the all-new Game On comedy crossover event with “Family Reunion” and other Netflix shows that was just released this past August.

Lance and his family now live in Los Angeles full-time and when not acting, Lance enjoys playing volleyball, biking, chess, kickboxing, and singing.

Fun fact: Lance was a member of the Cincinnati Boychoir for 3 years.

A staunch community program supporter, Lance is also a volunteer with a kids’ after school program with the Boys and Girls Club of America and Best Buddies, an international organization that creates opportunities for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities.

Wanting to know more, The Hype Magazine got Lance to weigh in on a few things

From the outside looking in tell us about Lance Alexander!

First and foremost, what you see is what you get!  I am a reliable, trustworthy, and hardworking teenager.  I enjoy family time and hanging with my buddies as often as I can.  I’m a picky eater but I’m getting better as I am starting to focus on my physical health a lot more. My mom is always reminding me that “Health is Wealth” so I am learning to say no to junk food these days. I enjoy volunteering in my community. Church and youth service are the highlights of my busy week. All in all, I love my life, and it’s nearly impossible to break my spirit. Sure,  I get down from time to time, but I refuse to stay there for long.

What brought you to the entertainment industry?

Growing up I always enjoyed participating in theater and school plays. I discovered my passion for acting by simply watching how people responded to my presence. For as long as I can remember, I have loved to entertain and whatever room I went in, I seem to get a lot of attention. Back then, I was just simply dancing or telling knock-knock jokes – but that’s how it all started. I discovered I had a special way with people, I liked them, and they liked me back! At that time, I had no idea that acting could be a career. Things got a little more formal in 2017 when I began taking acting classes in my former home town of West Chester, Ohio.  That led to me participating in a talent showcase which sparked interest from both a talent agent and manager from Los Angeles. The showcase was a success! With my community acting experience and only 5 months of training, they requested I come to Hollywood.

What most excites you about acting?

The most exciting part about being an actor is witnessing my growth. I am constantly learning and evolving as an artist. What’s even more amazing is that I never get bored. With the exception of memorizing scripts, I enjoy every aspect of being an actor and I am certain it will bring me great joy for many, many years.

In your role as Elvis on the comedy Family Reunion you get to work with the amazing stars Loretta Devine, Richard Roundtree, and Tia Mowry, what has that experience been like?

Working on this series has been an epic experience, certainly the highlight of my career.  The cast, crew, directors, and writers are all fun to work with. The creator Meg Deloatch sets an example of excellence for each of us to follow, the energy on set is magical.  Everyone is encouraging and supportive and for young actors, on set support means everything. I consider Family Reunion a teaching set, because Ms. Loretta, Mr. Richard, and Ms. Tia are always patient and willing to spend time mentoring and teaching others.

What have you learned from working with these celebrated actors?

One of the best things I have witnessed and learned from these giants is how to be humble! We all admire and celebrate each of them yet they remain open to ideas and feedback about their work.

What’s next for Lance Alexander as we close out 2020?

I am presently using some of the downtime to concentrate on my voiceover skills. Voiceover and animation are next on my vision board. My mom is big on creating vision boards so we can visually track our progress, see our goals, and create a level of accountability for what we do with our time.

Any words of advice for other teen actors coming up through the ranks?

The best advice I can share is to be your authentic self, there is no one else exactly like you. Don’t get caught up in being validated by others, trust that you are enough because God says so! Another huge piece of advice I have is to never give up because your blessing is probably right around the corner and that goes for all aspects of life! Dream and dream big, remember dreams don’t have expiration dates.  Lastly, be patient with yourself, be prepared to work hard, don’t let rejection bother you, and trust the process.
