SAINt JHN Delivers Electrifying Performances of “Gorgeous” and “Sucks To Be You” From His Forthcoming Album as MTV’s Global Push Artist For the Month of November

The time has finally come for SAINt JHN to take off, and he is poised to do so this month as MTV’s PUSH artist for November. Just weeks away from releasing his forthcoming album, When the World Was Burning, SAINt JHN offers electrifying performances of “Gorgeous” and “Sucks to Be You” while also connecting with MTV for an exclusive interview, giving fans an up-close look into his musical process, his collaboration with Beyonce, and how his upbringing shaped his identity.

On growing up in Brooklyn, New York and Georgetown, Guyana:

“Let’s be clear, my time was spent between Brooklyn and Georgetown, Guyana. It only sounds sexy… It wasn’t super sexy when I was growing up. Because I had to figure out how to lose my accent, regain my accent, I’m Black, I’m not spanish… It was the most confusing time of my life, but it was everything. It made the difference. So growing up in both places… incredible.”

On his self-belief and making music:

“Do I have a memory from my childhood when I knew that I was destined to do this? Nah, you know it internally, instinctively. It was just like self-belief, I knew it. When I’m making music, I’m not just pulling from the past. It’s not unit directional. I’m pulling from the future, I’m referencing the past, I’m thinking of the alternate version of me. I write music like every perspective is valid and I’m borrowing from all of them to create a full picture, so that you get a texture.”

On working with Beyonce:

“When I started “Brown Skin Girl” I knew I wanted to do something important. I wanted to have a song that one day, if I ever had a daughter, I could sing to her. I could tell her ‘you’re beautiful’ but I wouldn’t have to use my words, I could trick her by just playing the song Brown Skin Girl.”

Throughout the month of November, MTV will roll out exclusive performances, interviews and personalized content to bring fans closer to SAINt JHN across MTV’s on-air, digital and social platforms around the world.
