Former Actor James Marsden Starts New Variety Show Inspired by The 60s & 70s To Provide More Opportunities For Musicians

James Marsden, or Mars as he likes to be called, had a long and successful career as an actor in 90s sitcoms, starring on shows such as “Boy Meets World”, “Step by Step”, and “Full House”, as well as feature films and hundreds of voice-over roles including Max Goof in “A Goofy Movie”, Thackery Binx in “Hocus Pocus” and Haku in Hayo Miyazaki’s “Spirited Away.” While living in Nashville Mars fell in love with the unique music, comedy, and alternative scene but with Nashville often being limited when it comes to genres Mars decided he wanted to experience something bigger.

Mars packed up and moved to Hollywood. He was instantly blown away by the music scene and the endless number of types of music that could be found there. Mars always knew he wanted to give back to the music industry but he didn’t know where to start until he came to Hollywood. Once he got there he decided to create an environment where musicians could showcase their music and the audience would have to pay attention to it. Thus, the Mars Variety Show was born.

Inspired by the classic variety shows of the 60s and 70s like The Dean Martin Show and the Johnny Cash Show the Mars Variety Show combines live musical performances, sketch comedy, one-liner jokes, surprise guests, and charismatic hosts, with every act presented in a larger than life, non-linear, randomly curated package designed to captivate and inspire the audience. The show can be found in an easily accessible form on YouTube where its first debut consisted of 6 episodes. The Mars Variety Show celebrates local indie musicians, comedians, alt performers, spoken word poets, artists, and anything else that classifies as a “relentless good time.”

James Marsden and The Mars Variety Show are giving musicians a new and improved platform to showcase their talents while also providing an important level of nostalgia from years past. Mars is doing what he can to help those in the music industry be seen and heard in order to achieve their dreams.
