0Breaking In A Sequence’s David Silveria & Richard Nguyen On Their New “Acronym” EP, Covering Faith No More, Plans & More
Earlier this month, Breaking In A Sequence — the hard rock band featuring former Korn drummer David Silveria — released an explosive new video for the group’s cover of Faith No More’s “Midlife Crisis.” As featured on the band’s debut EP Acronym, the song and accompanying music video both pay tribute to the seminal ‘90s alt-rockers, who vocalist Rich Nguyen has publicly-acknowledged “had a major impact on all of us — David and me, specifically.” To properly pay homage to the original video, the Southern California-based rockers teamed up with director/producer Matt Zane to re-create the iconic Faith No More classic, as inclusive of identical live performance shots and color composition.
“Midlife Crisis aside,” also included on the Breaking In A Sequence’s 6-track EP is the group’s debut single “Pity,” which reached No. 23 on the Billboard Indicator chart and No. 9 on the Foundations chart upon its initial release. The EP — which also features the playing of guitarists Mike Martin and Joe Taback and bassist Chris Dorame — is currently available through Spotify, iTunes and all the key digital service providers for new music in 2021; several tracks are also on the band’s YouTube channel.
On February 26, 2021, I had the pleasure of speaking with both David Silveria and Richard Nguyen via Zoom, as embedded below. Beyond the Acronym EP, we discussed musical influences, how the band came together and television shows of the moment.
