Grammy-nominated Phoebe Bridgers and Ariana Grande’s Co-Writer Tayla Parx Featured in New MTV News Interview Series “The Method”

Grammy-nominated Phoebe Bridgers opens up in MTV News series “The Method,” offering an intimate look at the approach of today’s most influential creative forces

New series also features songwriter Tayla Parx, the musical mastermind behind Ariana Grande’s “Positions,” ahead of the deluxe album release

Phoebe Bridgers sat down with MTV News’ host Dometi Pongo for new digital series “The Method” ahead of her appearance this week on Saturday Night Live, to open up about how her life has changed since the release of her Grammy-nominated sophomore album Punisher, how the record came to be, her musical upbringing, and the strategy behind her success.

“The Method” premiered on the MTV News Youtube channel as well as all MTV and MTV News social channels, including Twitter,Facebook and Instagram.

Bridgers on her latest album’s title track “Punisher” and the deep emotional bond that inspired it:

  • “The song “Punisher” on the record is about Elliot Smith. We would have lived less than a mile away from each other if he were alive right now, and now I know tons of his friends and have worked in studios he’s worked in and he just would have been around in such a heavy way and I know his whole discography, I’ve read every book about him ever. So the song is just kind of examining how it’s impossible to have a normal relationship with someone that you grew up with as an idol.”

Bridgers on being completely transparent in her music and hit-single “Motion Sickness:”

  • “I have yet to edit myself for the public. If I didn’t write about personal stuff I’d be robbing myself of the experience of talking to fans with mirrored experiences. It’s so fun to play a show or joke about something dark and then have somebody come up to you and you’re laughing about trauma, basically. You’re laughing about a shared experience and you’re like man, I’m so glad I said that because otherwise, I wouldn’t have had that conversation.

The series first debuted with an interview featuring Cardi B’s “WAP” music video creative director, Patientce Foster, followed by aconversation with singer-songwriter Tayla Parx, the driving force behind Ariana Grande’s hit single “Thank U, Next” and much of her latest album Positions.
