Who Is Dread Woo?

Dread Woo was born in Brooklyn, New York at the turn of the millennium. Growing up in the inner city, he found his inspirations in artists like Meek Mill, Lil Baby, The Migos, Lil Durk and more. All of these acts have turned their hardships into riches by sharing their pain and desires with listeners across the globe. Part of the Woo frenzy is influenced by the unique melodies inspired by UK drill beats and the New York swag. On these tracks artists will take beats influenced by the Chicago drill genre that has been infused to New York’s gllt rap. Paired with harmonies enveloped in themes of finessing and overcoming obstacles and adversities the Woo sound keeps their listeners entertained. Since his introduction, Woo has dropped a few singles and garnered over 1.5 million streams on various platforms. Woo was featured on the album, Shoot for the Stars, Aim for the Moon by Pop Smoke with the track “Woo Year”

From the outside looking in, who is the artist Dread Woo?

A Drill artist with a flare of R &B with a blend of UK grime with Woo style. Dread Woo is a laid-back person, but my music speaks for itself my sound is a combo of both Drill/ R n B.

What was the defining moment that brought. you to the music industry as a profession?

My defining my moment that brought me to the music industry is Pop Smoke’s Death and I wanted to make sure that smoke will never clear, and anything is possible. I grabbed the mic again and decided to pursue the music full force. 

How has music impacted your life and what from it inspires you the most? 

When I dropped my first single and I saw how many fans I naturally had so it motivated me to drop more.

What do you look to contribute to the musical landscape as a creative?

I want to always touch the people like I try to think for the kids and for the club. So, the music I make brings energy and life and joy to people to make them dance and stuff. And I try to touch the people that, that like to do that. I rap about the things that we go through, our trials and tribulations.

Then, with my visuals I just not to not make it a regular video. With, everybody just in the video  jumping around, but we just try to lean into it to our best viewpoints.

Tell us about your current project and what it means for you. 

My fans gave me more feedback to where I was able to build on, on my craft. So, with that project “Smoke Will Never Clear”,  I realized my fans made valid points, I started collecting the details on the comments; So, I know how to proceed with my music.

My previous project was my growth project I just started rapping not too long ago. My fans gave me more feedback after.

How does it differ from your previous work?<

Getting comfortable with the studio life and finally found my comfortably and my flow. My new music that will drop will be much better. My new music is dropping such as, True Blue Spin and more.

What do you want listeners to get from your music?

To feel uplifted and to understand that the smoke will never clear

What’s been your biggest regret as you’ve moved through the music business maze?

I feel like rushing music out without the vision and plan

What’s been the funniest WTF moment thus far in your career?

Seeing fans running up to me was definitely a different experience.

What concerns you most about the society we live in?

My major concern is police brutality and I see that as a major problem in our communities.
