Spotify Debuts Sound Up Latinx Program – Immersive Podcast Accelerator for Latinx Communities

Spotify has officially debuted the newest extension of its highly successful podcast accelerator program, Sound Up Latinx – continuing its mission to raise up and inspire the next generation of podcasters through education and support.

The program is designed to directly address the disparities present in the podcasting community: 56% of the US Latinx population have listened to a podcast, yet the Latinx podcast creators still face deep underrepresentation in the space and beyond. Sound Up Latinx aims to bridge that gap by bringing more Latinx creators to the podcasting space, and build new content made for Latinx listeners to connect to.

The program will be divided into two parts. Sound Up Latinx will kick off with a virtual training program in later this fall running over the course of 4 weeks before 10 participants (shortlisted by Spotify) will learn and cultivate the skills to create a podcast via live courses, recorded lessons, and more. The 10 participants will pitch and submit a podcast trailer and proposal for the opportunity to be selected as a finalist to attend the subsequent Sound Up sessions in 2022. Past finalists and alumni of Sound Up (which has connected with other underrepresented groups like women of color) have received podcast development deals, connections to industry leaders, production grants and more. Finalists include Dope Labs’ Titi Shodiya and Zakiya Whately, FOGO: Fear of Going Out’s Ivy Le, You Heard Me Write’s Kacie Willis, and more.
