Andrew Zimmern On This Year’s New York City Wine & Food Festival, Transitioning To TV, Future Plans, Music & More

The Food Network & Cooking Channel New York City Wine & Food Festival, or NYCWFF for short — as presented by Capital One — is a star-studded 4-day event showcasing the talents of the world’s most renowned chefs, wine and spirit producers, culinary personalities, lifestyle experts and America’s most beloved television chefs. Great food from top talent aside, the festival raises critical funds to nourish vulnerable New Yorkers affected by severe illness and food poverty via God’s Love We Deliver and Food Bank For New York City. 50,000+ foodies are expected to experience this year’s NYCWFF.

On October 17, 2021, Andrew Zimmern will be hosting the Backyard BBQ presented by Pat LaFrieda Meats and National Beef as part of this year’s NYCWFF at Pier 86, home of the Intrepid Museum, The city’s best barbeque joints are scheduled to come together for the return of NYCWFF’s ultimate BBQ event, which welcomes New York City’s most lauded pit masters as they aim to deliver an afternoon one’s taste buds will never forget, while raising funds for excellent causes. In turn, attendees will get to take in waterfront views as they sample tender brisket, pulled pork sandwiches piled high, giant Pat LaFrieda premium steaks done to perfection and anything else imaginable — within reason, of course — that can be slow-cooked, smoked and/or grilled before your very eyes on an open flame.

NYCWFF aside, Andrew Zimmern is an Emmy and James Beard Award-winning TV personality, chef, writer, teacher and social justice advocate. In February 2020, Andrew returned to television with What’s Eating America, which premiered on MSNBC, and 2021 brought the premiere of Family Dinner via Chip & Joanna Gaines’ Magnolia Network. Both of those shows were created by Intuitive Content, the full-service television and digital production company that Zimmern heads as both founder and CEO. Zimmern is also the founder and CEO of Passport Hospitality, a restaurant and food service development company, and a prolific philanthropist. Currently he sits on the board of directors of Services For The UnderServed, Project Explorer/EXPLR and Soigne Hospitality, while also working with the International Rescue Committee’s Voice For Nutrition and the Independent Restaurant Coalition.

On October 15, 2021, I had the pleasure of speaking with Andrew Zimmern via Zoom, as embedded below. Beyond NYCWFF, we spoke about how he wound up in television, the role his recovery played in developing his career, future plans and music. Additional info on Zimmern, his professional endeavors and this year’s NYCWFF events can be found by clicking here, here and here.
