0Slot Themes: Why Music Remains a Favorite
All sorts of themes have been adopted by slot developers over the years, and while there are outliers and unique examples that crop up from time to time, there are also some old favorites that are frequently reused.
Music is a great example of this, as there are top slot games which are either inspired by particular musical genres and movements, or officially licensed from world famous recording artists like Guns ‘n Roses and Ozzy Osborne.
So what is it about music that makes it such a ripe avenue for giving slot makers the inspiration they need for their latest releases?
The universal appeal
In simple terms, almost everyone connects with music on some level. And while the broadness of the theme might be a limiting factor, the existence of so many different subgenres means that slots can be made to cater to specific demographics.
We already mentioned the fact that rock bands have licensed slots to their name, and this instantly creates a connection with their fan base, without the need for any bridge-building on the behalf of the developers.
Then there are games inspired by classical composers like Beethoven and Mozart, which clearly aim to impress players who have very different musical tastes, and yet still have a shared interest in gambling.
The long standing casino connection
Another aspect of slot games and gambling in general which makes music a suitable theme for this type of activity is that the glitz and glamor of casino culture is closely tied in with the music industry itself.
From the range of acts who have recorded music videos in Las Vegas, to the fact that Sin City plays host to residencies from some of the biggest global superstars, there is a clear link that exists here. As such, slot machines feel like a natural fit when they are themed around music.
This may partly be as a result of the way that Elvis Presley spent many years of his career fostering a relationship with Las Vegas, and all of the opulence and excess that went along with this. There are of course slot games based on the King, and no doubt Presley would have enjoyed spinning the reels as much as his modern fans.
The entertainment factor
There are a few key elements which go together to make a good slot machine, and while things like the graphics and the design of the symbols will initially be the most notable, the soundtrack and the audio effects are just as important to shaping the overall experience.
Rather than having to come up with their own music, if a developer is making a slot with a particular artist or genre in mind, then they could either commission pieces around this, or simply license songs that are well known to use in-game. In the case that the slot is being made with the permission of the performer, this will more than likely be approved.
From a player’s perspective, having a soundtrack that is to their taste to enjoy will simply make the slot more entertaining, so it’s a win-win for everyone.
The timelessness
Last but not least, music is a great theme for slot machines because it doesn’t feel like a flash in the pan choice, but can instead ensure that the game will still be relevant and interesting to players in years to come.
This is probably why developers tend to stick with licensed music slots from well established artists, rather than making games that are inspired by up-and-coming performers who might not go the distance.
