This past weekend, South-Florida-based hip hop artist Von Archer released “Tyrone Evolved,” a sequel to Erykah Badu’s 1997 hit “Call Tyrone.” The rising independent artist is known for shifting the culture forward with his diverse, out-of-the-box music that’s wrapped up in inspiration, motivation, and all things Black excellence.

With his sexy abs and his urban, culturally diverse style – he’s a man that has evolved and attracted success over the years. From his collaborations on “Cassius” and “Elevate” with recording artist Doxamillion to hit “Viva A Sua Vida,” Archer boasts thousands of monthly listeners on the music streaming platform Spotify. The recording artist tells The Hype that he wants his music to do more than just entertain, he wants to make music that embodies excellence and evolution.

Growing up the way I looked at myself was largely influenced by music and the culture. We subconsciously act out the stuff that we listen to. As artists, we have a responsibility to create music that inspires because the youth listen to music so I stand for pushing our culture forward, instead of the usual drugs and violence. You don’t have to rap about killing to prove yourself,” he tells The Hype.

If the music is motivational and inspirational, in a positive way, to help push our culture forward I think that will push our culture forward. What that means to me – making people believe that they can do whatever they put their minds to, they can be excellent,” he adds.

The music video for his latest release, a video by Neuyu, opened up in an upscale bar. As Archer approached the bar he raps the first verse speaking through a cell phone as he recalls the darker moments of his journey.

You said you was tired of my s—/I never brought you nothing/Compassion was lacking, you knew I was struggling /I had a job but the pay was real s_, it was working like a slave for 9.50 an hour /No doubt about it I felt ashamed the only people in my corner was Jim, Paul, and James – and Tyrone/Those was the homies, kept it real with me when everybody was phony,” he raps.

As the video play’s we see Archer seated in a chair under a spotlight smoking a cigar as he reminiscences on the past. “You was telling me to Call Tyrone, call him/ Now those are gone cause now I’m the s…/You was telling me to call Tyrone /But guess what, Now I got my own,” he repeats in the hook.

Archer, who says the song was inspired by an argument found himself alone in a room when the idea of making the sequel came to mind. “I thought to myself, what if the boyfriend that Badu sang about had evolved into a boss?” After realizing that it would be a dope story to get his perspective, Archer’s creative imagination took control, and “Tyrone Evolved” was born.

Now an evolved man and musical artist, Archer says what men need during seasons of change is time to grow. “I can understand that it’s hard and they may not see the light at the end of the tunnel at the time. Every man will not be able to grow, every man’s actions are not progressive, but every woman should give a man time because every man needs time to grow,” Archer tells The Hype

So, I say to support his vision, but he has to have work ethic. He has to have specific characteristics – he has to be a good person overall, had to be a genuine person, has to have good values and not be deceptive but at the same time everybody’s experience is different, everybody is different,” he continued.

The rapper’s latest single “Tyrone Evolved” continues to resonate with fans around the globe and he says music lovers can expect a whole lot of Black excellence moving forward. For Archer, making music to uplift the culture and change the narrative of Black men in Hip Hop is paramount. “I’m pushing everybody to find greatness within themselves,” he says.
