We got the young lion to weigh in on a few things.

At what point did you realize you wanted to take your music more seriously and enter the industry professionally?

When I made a demo around 2014, the reaction I got from the producer, family, and acquaintances was unbelievable. Telling me that you should really take this music thing seriously. A record label listened to my demos and signed me too but I did not stay long with them and later just realized that I need to start my own thing and promote myself. The opportunity came in 2022 and I took it.

How and when did you first get into making music?

In 2010, I heard a dude’s demo and I asked him where he made it. So I went there and enquired about making music and there and then, Hitpapa’s passion for creating music was born.

What is your creative process? What does it look like and involve from start to finish when creating a song and video?

The beats from the producer (Choco Jay) inspired me. There is something about drums and melodies that are blended in such a way that you feel is out of this world. They inspire me to write on it anything that is going on in my life around that time. Also I keep at the back of my mind that I have to inspire the youth.

What inspired “I’ll Be There”? How did teaming up with Emtee influence the track?

Emtee is a talented artist, I have wanted to work with him because of the messages from his previous songs. He is hard working and that is something that always motivated me in life. He listened to a couple of beats and told me that I should choose any and he will work with it. So we were just sipping some drinks and then he got up and took the hook. I loved it and then wrote my verses that same day. Sending a positive message to the hustlers around the world.

More generally, in what ways do your collaborations with other artists impact your approach and outlook on making music and making a name for yourself in this highly competitive sector of entertainment?

I always remember that am not competing with anyone, I am only competing with myself. I tend to do better on every track. I just want to keep passing positive messages as far as I can and express my feelings to the world too.

What was it like making the “I’ll Be There” music video?

Fun!

How does the visual successfully complement the song lyrics and theme of “I’ll Be There”?

The directors said we should just have a party in my crib and then I invite Emtee in. Just as the music video started with me opening the door for Emtee and the rest was a vibe.

What was your initial reaction to seeing the final project all come together?

“Wow, I love the grading,” was what I said. Changed a few clips and boom that was it.

What do you want your following to recognize about this particular song and video?

The message. Life na turn by turn. One day we all gonna make it as long as we keep working and looking up to God.
