When and where did your musical journey begin? Who were your greatest musical role models growing up and entering the industry?

My musical journey began when I was a little kid but I never knew it at the time. My dad played music in a band before I was born. His old bandmates would get together at picnics or sometimes their family member’s weddings or events. I can remember how cool I thought it was that my dad could play guitar and do It so well although I would never see him practice. This was the gateway that sparked my interest and brought me to where I am. My dad was my greatest idol when I was younger. When I got to my early teens I didn’t know much about music except for country music. I always worked with my dad and he wouldn’t allow anything else on the radio except Country music. I found that I was attracted to anyone who had energy. The top guy for me was Hank Williams Jr. I also loved Waylon Jennings. My brother in law at the time began to give me different styles of music which started to open my eyes. These bands were all energy driven. They were:

Stray Cats, Robert Gordon and eventually Stevie Ray Vaughan who pinned the needle on the energy meter.

What does your creative process look like, and how does it affect your ability to create such smooth, genre-crossing musical productions?

My creative process is actually very simple. I observe things in life. Like Seinfeld could make humor out of everyday life I try to do that with my songs. I listen, and I observe.

There are ideas all around us at every minute. The smallest thought can be a song. I usually start with an idea or maybe a phrase. Then I think about that idea and I try to talk about it in my own head. Since I can change a description of a thought, I try to come up with what’s on my mind and say it in a way that may rhyme with the next or previous line while I’m writing. Although I have written songs with no music Iprefer to do it with music. So once I have the idea I try to figure out what the message or feeling of the song is and then find a sound on the guitar that fits. Once I have all of these parts assembled the song is usually quite easy to make. I have no idea how it is genre-crossing but it is probably because I have so many influences it is just natural.

What inspired your latest single, “Meet The Man”? What is the main message listeners should take away after hearing the song?

My dad was the inspiration for this song. He was never a very religious person but when he was in his later years he did start to refer to dying as going to m£)et the man. I found. peace knowing that he had these beliefs and that he wasn’t afraid of what was coming. On the day my dad passed away I remember driving home with the song in my head.

When I got home, I picked up my guitar and that song came out. I sang that song at his funeral a few days later, and people loved it. This was 2010, and I always knew I wanted to record that song when the time was right. Once I was in Nashville, I knew the time was right. I hope that when people hear this song, they can feel comforted the way I do about a passed loved one or friend.

How did it feel writing -and also performing – the reflective, soulful, and robust lyrics that pack such an emotional punch in “Meet The Man”?

I felt so much emotion the night I wrote this song. I am always proud when I can feel a song. When r sang it at my dad’s funeral, I could tell the. crowd could feel it too. Now that it  recorded I am hearing from people on how they feel the song. This has to be a good thing!! I love to perform this song because of the energy in the room.

What was your experience shooting the “Meet The Man” music video? What made this approach to the visual the most fitting and the most significant for you?

It was very easy to film that video. It was just me singing, and I love the way that they filmed it. I think they nailed it with the lighting and the smoke in the air. It s very straight to the point, which I love. The song has a very clear message, and the video helps capture that.

What can Albert Cummings fans and followers expect next?

My goal is to tour as much as possible and write as many songs as I can. I love the process and the more I do it the more I want to do it. I feel that I’m getting better at it, and that s wonderful as l honestly don’t know where it comes from. It just happens, and I want to share that with the world.

Thank you so much for these questions!!
