Are online casinos becoming more popular than land-based ones?

Staying entertained in your spare time is something everyone loves to do, wherever you live and whatever you do. There is just nothing like kicking back and relaxing after a busy day at home or in the office! Modern times have given us more ways than ever to do this nowfrom streaming the latest music to using movie/TV streaming services like Netflix, or heading online to catch up on social media sites.

One way of having fun that has grown hugely in popularity lately is playing online casino games. The latest online casinos make it easier than ever to enjoy exciting games like blackjack from home and this explains their widespread appeal. But are these online casino sites now becoming more popular than land-based ones?

Online casinos eclipsing land-based ones

In years gone by, you would have headed to your nearest land-based casino if you wanted to try out a game like roulette or craps. Before online casinos appeared on the scene, this was the only way to have fun with casino gambling in your spare time.

The development of first the Internet and then online casino platforms has changed all of this though. Although iGaming sites might have lagged behind their land-based cousins initially, they have been on a rapid ascent in recent years and are starting to challenge them for the top spot. This now sees the demand for land-based casinos on a downturn globally and the appetite for online ones rising. While land-based casinos will always be around, they do seem to be behind iGaming sites in the modern world.

But why have online casinos begun to overtake land-based ones?

People prefer online play

While we will look at some specific benefits which the very nature of online play has over land-based gaming, the rise of iGaming has a lot to do with changes in our entertainment choices now.

In simple terms, many people around the world prefer doing things like casino gaming online, rather than having to head out to play games in person. This is largely down to the increasing adoption of technology within society and how comfortable the majority of people are now with using online tools/platforms to have fun. It is also down to people liking to experience new things and try out new trends. In the same way as music lovers like discovering new artists, like Pancho Witt, casino lovers enjoy finding out new ways to play their favorite titles.

The recent COVID-19 pandemic also gave the online casino sector a boost and helped it challenge land-based casinos for the top dog spot in the industry. This was because people could not play at land-based sites at the pandemic’s peak and instead had to play online from home.

Many people not only got used to gaming in this way but also started to see the unique advantages it offers. As a result, online casinos picked up a whole host of new fans, who did not return to land-based sites when they were able to.

Why else have online casinos started to overtake land-based ones?

As noted above, there are some specific benefits online casinos have that enable them to challenge the historic dominance of land-based ones. To begin with, they are a lot more convenient to play at and you do not have to leave your own home to use one. Online casinos are also open 24/7 and do not have any dress codes or travel expenses to worry about.

Most online casinos will also have a wider range of games to play than their land-based cousins and come with awesome new player promotions, which real casinos can’t match. Many online casinos will also offer much better loyalty programs for existing players.

A lot of players also prefer the privacy of playing online. Gaming at an online casino, after all, means that you can fully focus on enjoying yourself, without anyone else present to distract you. Mobile gaming has also played its part, and this means that you can try out casino games wherever you are and whenever you like, via casino apps. All of this helps to explain why people are now choosing Internet casinos over real-life ones.

Internet casinos are set to dominate moving ahead

When you think that the online gambling market size globally by 2030 is predicted to hit $172 billion, you can see just how popular this way of playing games, like slots, is now. It is also clear to see that these types of figures have allowed iGaming platforms to really challenge the status of land-based sites in the industry.
