NFJ Kenzo – The Wage Of Better Angels: A Treatise To The Truth Review

Hip-hop is a genre that’s all about breaking boundaries and challenging yourself. While many believe hip-hop is nothing but catchy beats and the culture that surrounds it, the truth is that the best hip-hop is always personal and heartfelt. How it’s presented is up to the artist. For INFJ Kenzo, being brutally honest with himself and his thoughts is the path he chose with his latest album, The Wage Of Better Angels: A Treatise To The Truth.

Going through the album is an experience, taking you through the inner thoughts and self-reflections of INFJ Kenzo himself. It takes time to explore darker themes and concepts, though the album keeps itself brisk and clean. Songs like “Every day” and “Hungry” are great examples of this, exploring ideas of generational bias and squandered potential to their fullest while maintaining a catchy and pleasant sound.

INFJ Kenzo’s rapping chops are also put on full display with this release. “Nightlights,” on top of being an excellent exploration of the very concept of freedom, is also a raw showing of the artist’s immaculate flow and artistry. Lyrically, the album in its entirety is an exercise of excellence. Every verse has been carefully crafted, resulting in every song landing emotionally in standout ways.

We’re also generally quite impressed by how the album’s production, which is impressively lush and smooth. Creative and exciting use of synths and instrumentation gives every song a unique identity. As a result, despite 22 different songs, every single one sounds distinct. Some achieve this by being experiments more than anything (such as “Anything else,” a narration by James Baldwin), while others, like “Little boy”, feature beautiful soundscapes that tantalize the ear.

Other songs like “Abyss” are stripped down and raw, with guest verses from Poison Ivy adding a lot to the song’s tone. There’s never a dull moment on the album, even when things ramp down in intensity. Such is the case with such incredible emotional moments, where the quiet moments raise the tension even higher. The Wage Of Better Angels: A Treatise To The Truth can sometimes be a difficult album to listen to, but that’s what makes it so good.

To put it simply, The Wage Of Better Angels: A Treatise To The Truth is a masterpiece of an album. There are layers to this album, enticing listeners more and more with each listen. If you’re a hip-hop enthusiast, you owe it to yourself to check this one out. With beautifully layered sound and immensely thought-provoking lyrics, this is not one to miss.
