Zoot Offers a Wild Swagger on the Stylish ‘Highway’

Highway” blasts forward, showing off Zoot’s impeccable fiery flows. Word choice works to the absolute benefit of the entire track, for he offers a clear-eyed vision of the world. A whole series of genres get brought into the fray for a distinctive sound that feels entirely his own. Everything here has that delicate balance, the sort of thing that feels life-affirming. Speed-wise, his delivery has a Busta Rhymes quality, for he flies through each verse with pure determination.

From the first moment, the song blasts off at a breakneck pace. Things only double down on the speed upon his vocals entering the mix. By far the heart and soul of the sound, his nimble delivery adds to its sense of purpose. Entirely focused on its intense gaze, he holds nothing back. Parts of his approach have the Danny Brown hybrid-like aspect to it. Even with the fast-paced tempo, moments of the blues are strewn across the sonic debris. Hooks aplenty make sure that the song constantly brings the listener deeper and deeper into the overall stance of the atmosphere. Best of all, the track’s production goes for this glowing, glimmering sensibility one that stays true for the entirety of the whole work.

An exploration of sonic and freestyle freewheeling energy, Zoot holds nothing back on “Highway.”
