DJ Chmba Makes an Introduction with single ‘OKONGOLA’

DJ Chmba makes an introduction with the release of the lead single, “OKONGOLA” from her upcoming EP “OKONGOLA CAUCUS”.

Making a spin into the new year Lilongwe-based Artist/DJ/Producer Chmba has announced the release of her new EP titled, “Okongola Caucus”.

Set for release soon “Okongola Caucus” is a word that could translate to, “a gathering of beauty” – It is an exploration of love in all its forms from romance to parental, desire, and distance in love untangling, freedom, and barriers to love overlapping. Its lead single “Okongola” is set for release on Friday, May 12th, and is described as a song that takes you into a pit of desire at its peak.

Her signature sound is Afro-electronic, indie, and House alternative sounds amid time-traveling synths, fiery strings, and African percussive rhythms. Her infectious talent has caught the attention of the Queen of Pop, Madonna who has had Chmba to play her A-list celebrity parties including the Oscars’ The Party in Beverly Hills, California.

Since the tender age of 7, Chmba has been tearing apart family cassettes to create the funkiest fusions of afro sounds, future beats, and House grooves. Proud and unafraid, Chmba draws from her roots acknowledging a pan-African sense of sonic motherhood centering her home, Malawi.

Okongola is romance all swagged out with a timeless, hypnotizing synth arp taking you on an electric journey yet still grounded in Afro-energy with bass drums teasing Amapiano vibes. nIGEL on vocals takes you between worlds, maybe a night out in Malawi and maybe also space, Malawi in space? Chmba carefully and somewhat carelessly blends two beautiful genres to make a unique vibe of an Afro-electronic future indie energy, you would want to drive or make a groove to.

Named Woman of the Year by Glamour Magazine, Chmba has rocked impressive stages including the World Economic Forum in Davos, BBC Radio 6, Tumbler Select Playlist, and opening sets for Grammy-winning artists like Angelique Kidjo, Nile Rodgers, Metro Boomin, and Laura Mvula.

Chmba is not just a talented artist – she is also a dedicated activist and founder of Tiwale, a community center in Malawi supporting women and gender minorities through art, and educational opportunities. With a list of accolades that includes Forbes’ Africa 30 Under 30, Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation Goalkeeper, and Global Citizen Youth Advocate, Chmba is a true trailblazer and a force to be reckoned with.

Chmba’s upcoming EP, Okongola Caucus is a powerful reflection of the future of sound sparking a range of emotions from love to joy to outright swaggy.
