Ben Official: Finding Harmony In The Chaos Of Life

Now let’s hop right into this latest single, “Balance” — Tell me about this particular track; how did it come to fruition?

As Ben Official, the creation of my latest single, “Balance,” was an introspective journey. It was born out of a period of personal growth and reflection, where I sought to find harmony in the chaos of life. The song came to fruition through a collaborative effort with my talented team of musicians and producers, who helped bring my vision to life.

How then does “Balance” either differ and / or compare to previous Ben Official entries?

“Balance” marks a significant evolution in my music. While my previous entries showcased my vocal range and storytelling abilities, this track delves deeper into my introspection and vulnerability. It offers a mature perspective on the delicate equilibrium we all strive to achieve in our lives, and it showcases a more refined sound that resonates with my growth as an artist.

As a songwriter, when you sit down to pen your lyrics where do you draw your inspiration from?

When I sit down to pen my lyrics, I draw inspiration from various sources. Life experiences, personal relationships, and emotions all play a role in shaping my songs. I strive to capture authentic and relatable moments that touch the hearts of my listeners, weaving together narratives that connect on a deeper level.

Reflecting, tell me your whole inception into music — When did you first become interested in it? And, how did it all begin for Ben Official?

My inception into music began at a young age, where I found solace in melodies and lyrics. Growing up in a vibrant musical city, I was exposed to a diverse range of genres and artists that influenced my musical journey. Some of my strongest musical influences include the soulful sounds of Marvin Gaye, the innovative artistry of Stevie Wonder, and the introspective lyricism of Lauryn Hill.

Now you’re a native of where exactly? And growing up there, who all did / do you consider to be your strongest musical influences?

As a songwriter, my journey began in Nigeria, where I was born and developed a deep love for music. At a young age, I moved to Chicago, a city with a rich musical heritage that would shape my artistic path. The vibrant music scene and diverse cultural influences in Chicago played a significant role in nurturing my passion for R&B and Soul.

In having said that, how do you classify your overall sound and / or style?

As for my overall sound and style, I would classify it as a fusion of contemporary R&B and Soul. I aim to create a sonic experience that combines smooth melodies, heartfelt lyrics, and captivating vocal delivery. My music often explores themes of love, self-discovery, and personal growth, embracing the emotional depth that R&B is known for.

Where does your moniker originally derive from?

The moniker “Ben Official” stems from my desire to embody authenticity and genuine expression in my music. It represents my commitment to staying true to myself and delivering music that resonates with listeners on a sincere level.

Switching gears here, what exactly do you want people to get from your music?

Through my music, I want people to find solace, inspiration, and a sense of connection. I hope that my songs can serve as a soundtrack to their lives, accompanying them through both joyful and challenging moments. Ultimately, I aim to create music that uplifts the spirit and leaves a lasting impact on those who listen.

If you could collaborate with any one artist, living or dead, who would it be and why?

If I could collaborate with any artist, living or dead, it would be the legendary Prince. His unparalleled musicality, boundary-pushing creativity, and captivating stage presence have always fascinated me. Collaborating with Prince would be an incredible opportunity to blend our unique styles and create something truly groundbreaking.

If you could play any venue in the world, which one would you choose and why?

When it comes to playing a dream venue, I would choose Madison Square Garden in New York City. Its iconic status and rich history make it a stage that countless legendary artists have graced. Performing there would be a monumental milestone in my career, allowing me to connect with fans and share my music in a legendary setting.

On a more serious note, are you happy with the current state of R&B?

As for the current state of R&B, I believe it’s in a dynamic and exciting phase. The genre continues to evolve and fuse with various influences, keeping it fresh and relevant. However, there’s always room for growth and further exploration of R&B’s roots, ensuring its longevity and continued impact in the music industry.

What do you feel has and will continue to be the key to your longevity?

The key to my longevity lies in staying true to my artistry and constantly evolving as a musician. I believe in honing my skills, pushing creative boundaries, and consistently delivering music that resonates with my audience. Building a strong connection with my fans and being adaptable to changing musical landscapes will also play a crucial role in sustaining my career.

Do you have any other outside / additional (future) aspirations, maybe even completely away from music?

While music remains my primary focus, I do have aspirations beyond the industry. I’m passionate about advocating for mental health awareness and using my platform to make a positive impact. I hope to collaborate with organizations and initiatives that address these important issues, promoting well-being and inspiring (others).

What’s an average day like for you?

Currently residing in Los Angeles, I draw inspiration from the dynamic energy of the city and its thriving music community. L.A. provides a creative melting pot that encourages me to explore new sounds and collaborate with talented artists and producers.

Please discuss how you interact with and respond to fans…

Having experienced the journey from Nigeria to Chicago and now L.A., my cultural background and diverse life experiences shape my music in profound ways. I strive to infuse elements of my Nigerian heritage into my sound, incorporating unique rhythms and melodies that add depth and richness to my songs.

What is your favorite part about this line of work? Your least favorite? And, why?

Reflecting on the violence that plagues certain areas of Chicago, I am deeply committed to making a positive impact through my music. I believe in the power of art to bring about change, and I would like to use my platform to raise awareness and address the root causes of violence in the city. Through collaborations with local community organizations and initiatives, I aim to support programs that provide resources, mentorship, and opportunities to empower the youth in Chicago.

What advice would you have for someone wanting to follow in your footsteps?

By using my music as a catalyst for change, I hope to inspire unity, understanding, and dialogue among communities affected by violence. Through heartfelt lyrics and messages of hope, I want to shed light on the issues and encourage listeners to join the movement for a safer and more peaceful Chicago.

Looking ahead, say five or maybe even ten years from now, where do you all see yourself?

Ultimately, my goal is to contribute to a future where music becomes a force that heals, uplifts, and brings people together. Uniting Chicago artists King Von and FBG Duck for a positive collaboration could have made a significant impact, bringing together two influential figures and potentially inspiring the youth in Chicago. It would have been a historic moment, showcasing the power of unity and the potential for positive change within the local music scene. Unfortunately, since both King Von and FBG Duck have passed away, this collaboration cannot be realized, but their legacies continue to resonate with fans and aspiring artists.

“Any parting words for our readers?”

I want to give a special shout to my management team /  Nu Wave music family!! Specifically William Odom and Marty Ojei. It’s been one hell of a ride, and we’ll continue riding til the wheel falls off!!!
