Former ‘The Voice’ Star Lisa Ramey Shows Out on ‘Hopeless’

Lisa Ramey worked doggedly as an artist and performer all her life. After emerging from Season 16 of The Voice as a clear fan favorite, she followed up on the show’s success by performing alongside John Legend, Lauryn Hill, and Camilla Cabello. Now, she’s releasing some of the cleanest R&B-pop tracks you’ll likely hear in 2024.

Lisa Ramey’s Early Success

Hailing from St. Louis, Missouri, Lisa Ramey has been performing, singing, acting, and writing since as early as nine.

Inspired by artists like Stevie Wonder, she fronted the popular funk-soul band SugarBad, which had some moderate success in the early 2010s and a lot of critical acclaim. Lisa’s voice, in particular, drew a lot of praise, and she was compared favorably with artists like Sharon Jones and Amy Winehouse.

Lisa then featured as a soul singer for Cirque du Soleil’s KOOZA. This was a robust challenge for the artist, as she toured worldwide – from Australia to the Far East – and constantly had to meet the physical and vocal demands of these live shows.

But Lisa Ramey came out the other end as a sharper, more professional, and more talented artist. She spent several more years touring in various stage productions and building herself up as a singer – even performing the National Anthem at Madison Square Garden in 2016 – before finally receiving national attention by appearing on The Voice US

The Voice

For those who switched on NBC on Monday nights during the spring of 2019, chances were you would’ve witnessed Lisa Ramey in all her glory.

Lisa had a star turn on the show, where viewers witnessed as she joined Team Legend and lit up the stage with covers of Kings of Leon’s ‘Sex On Fire,’ Stevie Nick’s ‘Edge of Seventeen,’ and The Band’s ‘The Weight.’

Her appearance marked the start of a crazy – but brilliant – few years for Lisa.

New Music

Lisa released her debut album, Surrender, in March 2020. Despite the world’s uncertainty during that time due to COVID, the album was an unmitigated success – and it finally showed the pure, unfiltered, bracingly vulnerable version of Lisa that many fans had been dying to see.

Four years after her debut album, Lisa continues to show that she still has plenty of surprises up her sleeve. Among some significant performances in recent years – including returning to Madison Square Garden to perform ‘I Get By With A Little Help From My Friend with John Legend – she has continued to record new music.

Lisa Ramey - Hopeless

She just released her latest single, ‘Hopeless’ and The song is another out-and-out R&B gem from an artist who is unashamedly leaning into her side with her music. If ‘Hopeless’ is anything to go by, 2024 will be another exciting year for Lisa Ramey.
