Louisville Funk Fest 2023 Concert Series [Juneteenth Edition] Friday June 16th & Saturday June 17th

Louisville, KY – Celebrating 50 years of hip hop, observing the nationally recognized Juneteenth holiday, and acknowledging the countless contributions of African American musicians during Black Music Month, megastars from all genres ascend on Louisville, KY. for the annual Funk Fest Tour on June 14-18.

The amazing, two-day concert goes down at downtown Louisville’s Waterfront Park with rap legends Juvenile, Jeezy, Slick Rick and Big Daddy Kane on Friday, June 16 and R&B icons Fantasia, Cameo, Ginuwine and Jagged Edge on Saturday June 17, among many others.

Kicking off Father’s Day week with the Financial Literacy Summit on Wednesday, June 14 and concluding with Finale Day Party on Sunday, June 18 at Mellwood Arts Center, the festival promises dynamic live performances and premier parties while promoting economic empowerment.

“The Funk Fest has traditionally brought out the brightest stars to share their talents over the years, but the festival has so much more to offer,” says Funk Fest founder Leo Bennett.

“This year is especially exceptional because we are praising the past, reveling in the present and planning for the future of black music, black entertainment and black excellence.”

Beginning as a small outdoor concert in Mobile, AL. in 1994, Funk Fest evolved into the most extensive and longest-running R&B concert tour in the United States. The Funk Fest Tour concert series has been held in Charlotte, Miami, Detroit, Tampa, Atlanta, Orlando, Louisville, Tallahassee, Memphis, Washington, DC and Jacksonville, making a huge economic impact in each tour city.

Musical heavyweights such as Outkast, Babyface, Frankie Beverly and Maze, New Edition, Whodini, Betty Wright, Rickey Smiley, the Ohio Players, Erykah Badu, Charlie Wilson, Rick Ross and a host of others have performed on the Funk Fest Tour stage.

Last year, Mary J Blige, Anthony Hamilton, Jazmine Sullivan, Raheem DeVaughn, the No Limit Reunion with Master P, Mia X, Silkk The Shocker, Mystikal and the legendary group Jodeci were among the many superstars to perform at the Central Florida Fairgrounds in Orlando.

“We started with humble beginnings,” Bennett contends, “but Funk Fest has developed into an institution of its own.” And this year—just like years past–will be nothing short of remarkable!

This year’s lineup also includes Doug E Fresh, 8Ball and MJG, Case and Sunshine Anderson.
