New Music: Hip Hop Activist Ahmen ‘We Choose Love’

“We Choose Love” (featuring Janani Saara), positive hip-hop artist and activist Ahmen (@iamahmen), is in heavy rotation at ESPN, providing the backbeat to SportsCenter’s NFL Training Camp coverage throughout the month of August. More information on Ahmen and his August 16 album release is available at www.ahmen.us.

On “We Choose Love,” Ahmen urges against using fear and violence as a response to global injustice, instead imploring people to unite together to fix the broken system through positive change:

“The pressure to succumb to fear and division has never been greater, but that pressure won’t prevail. People are rising up all around the world and overcoming personal and societal challenges – and they’re doing it through love. We see it every day, from the veteran creating a crowdfunding campaign for refugees, to the teacher creating a peace curriculum for her students, to the business leader teaching inmates how to become entrepreneurs.”

A nonprofit leader by day and hip-hop MC by night, Ahmen deftly blends his worlds of entertainment and social activism. Impactful, intriguing, innovative and inspiring, Ahmen was named a “Rising Star” for his leadership by New York Nonprofit Media on their 2015 40 Under 40 list and has been a featured speaker a tEmbark 2015 INBOUND 2015, and  Frank 2016 events. In the spirit of socially-conscious hip hop lyricists, Ahmen writes rhymes that advocate for much-needed change, hoping to encourage people to take positive action, unite, and right the system.
