Guitar Genius Marcus Machado Brings Us the Visuals for Hit Single ‘Shape Shift’

Marcus Machado is a guitar genius who’s been touted as Rolling Stone Magazine’s “The Next Young Gun.” His talent has led him to cross genres, collaborating with the likes of Robert Glasper, Pete Rock, and Pharoah Monch among others. He’s also lent his talents to film scores such as Emmy Award-Winning HBO Documentary “The Apollo” and critically acclaimed documentary “Contact High.”

In his new release Shape Shift ft. JSWISS and Ahrel Lumzy, Machado takes us on a journey that asks what if we changed positions and what if we changed conditions with the other side…the video for the single is powerful, inspirational, and incredibly timely. It shows that as much as things have changed…they haven’t; I’ll just leave that there for you…check out the video below.

The Hype Magazine got Marcus Machado to weigh in on a few things including his current project, the inspiration behind it, and what’s coming next

From the outside looking in, who is Marcus Machado?

Marcus Machado is a Guitarist/Artist/Producer and also an international touring artist that’s been playing music professionally from the age of 9 yrs old and has worked with many known artists from all genres of music.

Was there a defining moment that brought you to the music industry as a career?

Pretty much I’ve been playing music all of my life, I picked up the guitar at 2 yrs old and played my first professional gig at 9 yrs old. From that moment on that’s when I knew I wanted to play music forever.

What was the inspiration behind your new single Shape Shift?

The inspiration behind Shape Shift came from all of the unfortunate events I’ve seen happening to us as black people for a long time and we are still going through it at this very moment. Thru these dark times, I wanted the music and lyrics to speak the message and let us find hope and change.

How does this new project differ from your previous work?

The new project is showing more of a diverse range of music. Meaning having different genres of music in one project but showcasing more songs and experimenting with my guitar sounds than in my previous work.

What is the biggest takeaway you’d like listeners to get from the project?

I would want listeners to make the music take them away from these crazy times and vibe out and feel good and refreshed. We all need to hear good music in these weird times.

As an artist and producer are you still able to listen to music as a consumer or are you constantly analyzing what you hear?

As an artist and producer, I’m still able to listen to other music and get inspired, it’s always good to hear something completely different from what you’re doing so you don’t get burned out from your own music.

What’s coming next for you?

At the moment I have a project with Pete Rock & Soul Brothers. Our new single “Say It Again” is out now and the full project will drop Dec 11th. Another dope project I’m honored to be apart of is the group Th1rt3en which is Pharoahe Monch, Daru Jones (Drummer), and myself. Stay tuned for that project coming out in November. Also, I’m currently finishing up a few projects at the moment and looking forward to releasing a lot of new music soon!
