Melbourne’s Quiet Blue Shares Stunning New Single ‘Hollow’

Melbourne singer/songwriter Quiet Blue has shared his latest single ‘Hollow’. Influenced by the likes of Patrick Watson, David O’Dowda and Sigur Rós, this is Quiet Blue’s most reflective work yet, displaying a more morose side of his project. The release marks a new exploration of his unique and diverse sound and is accompanied by a stunning lyric video.

Discussing ‘Hollow’, Quiet Blue aka Nic Georgiou details; ‘Hollow is a song about the feeling of futility that we sometimes get in addressing the world around us. I definitely feel that I’ve tried to fill gaps in my own happiness with things that the world has told me ought to make me content. Causes, possessions and relationships have at times provided moments of intense meaning to my life but at the same time I’ve felt that my attempts to fulfil myself with these things are often futile. Sometimes the battles we fight are to no avail and what we thought was important turns out not to be. The words ‘All Night, So Bright’ are repeated during the song with a sonic resonance that starkly contrasts the rest of the song. I wanted to create that hopeful-all-consuming-about-to-burst-with-excitement feeling we all get before something we’ve been looking forward to and then tear it away to accentuate the inherent transience of those feelings.’

Quiet Blue is the musical project of Nic Georgiou. The Melbourne-based singer-songwriter has spent the past few years honing his craft, delving deeper into the world of electronic music and production to establish raw and intimate soundscapes underpinned a unique style of lyricism. Quiet Blue is the culmination of a lifetime of musical influence. Growing up, Georgiou was moved by the genius of folk legends like Sufjan Stevens, Gregory Alan Isakov and Bon Iver. More recently, the sonic textures of artist like RY X, Honne and Sohn have had an undeniable effect on his creative process. ‘Hollow’ is Quiet Blue’s third single for 2020, following the release of ‘Jealous’ and ‘Lost It All’.
