Female Rapper, Diamond K is Looking to Redefine Hip-Hop

The end of March marked the end of National Women’s History Month. With the current overturning of Roe vs Wade highlighting women`s issues, women of the past, present, and future continue to change the world, with many underground female artists bringing up the undertones of the music industry as talented musicians come into the forefront of today’s music. As a celebration of these female hidden figures, we are focusing on this unique talent.

The music industry can seem repetitive and boring sometimes, but there are a few artists out there who are real gems. Women in the music industry especially tend to be overly sexualized or sometimes do not have any actual talent, but here is one that is worth the listen and deserves more recognition. The spotlight is on Rapper/R&B singer and songwriter Diamond K, a 19-year-old upcoming rap/R&B artist out of Bardstown, KY. This independent Louisville, KY native rapper is as unique as they come. Her music is extremely freeing, empowering, and catchy with her blending of hip hop, soul, and R&B.

Her music style is considered alternative Rap/R&B with some indie pop influences. Diamond K`s smooth sultry voice, eccentric style, and tantalizing lyrics draw you in. Not only is she a singer, but she is also a songwriter, producer, and experiments with directing her own visuals. This Kentucky based artist is the epitome of creativity, as she blends hip hop, neo soul, and R&B to form a new and original sound. She is going to ascend the ranks, no doubt. By experimenting with assorted styles and techniques, her music includes a fresh breath of Rhythm & Blues, a “Pop” of color, and a journey to understanding the Neo-Soul through various elements, with touches of bass, synth, and drums. Thanks to her as well as the many other artists not mentioned here, listeners will continue to enjoy the ever-evolving world of music produced by these fantastic female artists.

As an unsigned artist, Diamond K is better known in the underground Indie community. She is one of the rare female vocals that blesses her listeners’ ears with a soft breath of a message in a world only growing louder. Diamond K blends bits of an electronica Indie vibe with simple yet progressive beats that are perfect to vibe to.

She started writing music at the age of fourteen but living in a small town limited her access to studios or videographers, but she was finally able to record in a studio in Louisville, KY at the age of eighteen. Subsequently, the young, emerging MC has since recorded many songs and expanded as an artist since releasing her first single in February 2022. Making music she loves has always been an outlet, her creative expression and being able to release the happiness, pain or anger and she hopes her music can do the same for others.

In mid-February 2022, Diamond K released her first all platform single “Kaine”. She followed up with three more singles, “Bad Woman Ft. Savvy B” – Diamond K, “Big Bags” – Diamond K, and “Shot Calla” – Diamond K. Music videos for “Bad Woman Ft. Savvy B” & “Big Bags”, were released and are now available on YouTube.

Diamond K spent the entirety of 2021 in the studio learning about music and the industry before releasing any music. Since then, her credibility has been exhibited in the consistency she has shown with releasing music & content for her supporters, staying active on social media, and engaging with fans and supporters.

Her future goals consist of releasing more content for her growing fan base & helping people find the words for the emotions they cannot explain through her music, as she continues to collaborate and grow with many more artists, videographers, photographers, and producers in diverse but compelling fields.

Diamond K is redefining Hip-Hop, R&B, and Indie music. While some may describe her overall sound as Alternative Rap blended with R&B, there is much more to her styles and emotions. Since music is ever so entangled with culture, the arts, fashion, and much more, it may never be possible for even this artist to define her own style of music. The new emerging R&B movement is continuously producing artists such as these mentioned. Unlike previous styles of Hip-Hop and R&B, many female artists have taken on a style of music to deliver a heartfelt message across with a whisper that is received as a roar.
