NyneWolf on Pursuing Music, PG County, DMV Underground, and More

Rapper NyneWolf is putting on for his city. He recently received the number one spot in the DMV underground hottest rappers list and it was deserved. His work ethic and quality music is unmatched and he is bound to make it big in the music world. We recently had the chance to interview him about being an artist coming from the DMV. Read the conversation below.

What was it like growing up in PG COUNTY?

I love my county, and it’s where I’ve lived for the majority of my life, but a lot of my new fans don’t know I actually lived in Baltimore throughout high school and returned to the area after. My upbringing in PG was pretty rough! I have a single mom and a few siblings. I moved every other year in PG, so I’ve definitely experienced the area as a whole.

When did you know you wanted to pursue music?

I’ve been writing music for as long as I can remember. I remember watching Marylin Manson videos when I was a kid and loved how he was a rockstar and everything that came with making music. I wrote my first full song when I was about 10 years old.

Your sound is very different from everyone else there; where does that come from, and how have people responded to your uniqueness?

I would say a major role in the music I make is the music I listen to when I’m just chilling. If you’re riding with me you may hear me put on music from the 60s-70s like Bootsy Collins or Al Green. My grandfather played a lot of it when he would watch me as a child and my mother listens to everything which plays a role in my versatility. I think people have responded well to my music style because they know it’s unique and I’m being myself. It’s not forced.

What is a favorite song of yours?

My favorite song I’ve ever made is probably “Dope dreams.” That song was really a raw truth of my reality and I think it spoke to a-lot of people.

What are some things you want people to know about where you’re from?

PG county has a reputation for being a not-so-good county to live in but when you get to know the people and embrace the culture here you’ll grow to love it. I feel the most comfortable in PG.
