Cleo Alexandra on Visuals for Single ‘Dream Fever’

Stepping out like an 80s superstar, Cleo Alexandra brings the nostalgia of synth and hard rock to the modern scene with her electrifying discography. The Australian-born artist was destined to shine under the spotlight from age 5 when she started to explore her creativity through poetry, singing/songwriting, and musical instruments. Through steadily mastering her craft, Cleo Alexandra carved out her place in the industry through unforgivingly raw original tracks and supercharged renditions of classics. Armed with powerhouse vocals and a unique approach to musical artistry, the artist is redefining the music of today and even caught the attention of six-time Grammy-winning American producer Keith Olsen and producer J.J Farris to develop her debut single “Criminal” in 2016. Now the songstress is scaling to new heights with the highly anticipated release of “Dream Fever.”

Intoxicated by love, “Dream Fever” speaks to the dizzying experience of fiery passion and lust that blossoms in a new relationship. Inspired by Cleo Alexandra’s personal love life, she touches on the out-of-body experience of finally meeting a partner who truly understands her worth. Kicking toxic love to the curb, “Dream Fever” is all about embracing pure, good-for-the-soul type romance. The song is edgy at its core, with cascading guitar shreds and deep drum hits, with elements of glam-pop to elevate it to the next level. Following the gritty yet hypnotizing tone of the song, the visuals match the high energy with snappy editing and racy visuals. Cleo Alexandra solidifies herself as a true icon and diva in “Dream Fever.”

How have your Australian roots and upbringing shaped your music? What ignited your spark to pursue it professionally?

Growing up in Australia I listened to a lot of Aussie rock bands like AC/DC, INXS, Silver Chair, Men At Work and that’s where my love for rock music started! I don’t really know where my initial spark came from because it was always there from a super young age. There was never a question in my mind that I would pursue music professionally – and here I am! It’s hard work but music is everything to me.

Describe what makes your artistic voice and sound unique from other rock singer-songwriters. What draws you into that style of music, and how did listening to idols like Janis Joplin, Courtney Love, and Pat Benatar reflect in your musical productions?

Great question! I feel because rock is still such a male dominated genre, the women in this genre do still have so much left to say and different perspectives to offer and explore through their writing and productions. This is what I think makes us all stand out when it comes to rock music and its also one of the things I was drawn to with this style of music.

Where did you find inspiration for your latest single, “Dream Fever”? What is the story and message communicated through the song?

Dream Fever is a song for anyone who is levelling up in the relationship department, and is on the prowl for someone new and exciting who can match their passion and lust for life!  It was inspired by my own experience in relationships with people who treated me so well, it made me realize what absolute BS I was putting up with in the past. What I thought was love was actually the bare minimum and this song is about finding a partner who makes you wake up and realize just how good relationships can be.

How does the “Dream Fever” story connect to you, and what do you want listeners to realize about the track after hearing it for themselves?

It was a fun song to write and I enjoy singing it as a reminder to myself of how much I have grown and how happy I am now I am no longer willing to compromise on my own happiness and satisfaction. I hope others will also feel empowered after hearing the track. Especially when it comes to relationships and what they deserve. I had to learn to stand up for myself more in relationships and this song defiantly helped me process that.

What was your creative vision for the sultry “Dream Fever” music video, and how did it come to be?

I filmed, directed and edited the music video myself, it was a lot of work but I’m so happy with how it turned out!  I wanted the video to have an old school MTV vibe. I also wanted it to feel a little grungy and wild, reminiscent of a hot summers night out where you let all your inhibitions go. So with the setting, outfits and fast paced editing of the video I think it came together amazingly and captures the feeling of the track perfectly.

Looking ahead, where do you go from here? What exciting new projects are on the horizon for Cleo Alexandra lovers?

The Dream Fever lyric video is dropping in the next week and the remix is dropping on the 23rd of September! So excited to share it with everyone!
