Nova Rockafeller: Don’t Kill My Teen Spirit

Let’s hop right into this brand new single & video “1990s” — Conceptually, although still pretty self-explanatory, still tell me what this particular track represents both to and for you?

It’s my childhood.

How important or big of an overall impact did the actual ’90’s have on both you and now, of course, with your ongoing journey in music?

A lot! My entire first album is ’90’s rock influenced. In the actual ’90’s, I was the younger sister of a rock audio engineer/producer. I spent a lot of time trying to hang out in that studio in my basement. I knew I wanted to be a singer when i was 6.

With that being said, how then did you first discover your musical talent?

I never really had talent, I just always had drive and dedication. Talent doesn’t matter, you can grow that.

Who have been your greatest inspirations musically and why?

I’m not inspired by music really, but lately my driving force has been hitting Low End Theory, which is a night out here where producers play their weird spacey beats. It’s the one place I enjoy being too high, the world slips away and I’m in space. I’ll play there soon, (but) I need an astronaut helmet first — I really like this one…

What do you feel you offer the music industry that we don’t already have in other performers?

I don’t care about the music industry or any of its other performers.

Have you encountered any problems in getting to this point in your career?

Obviously!

What do you want people to get from your music?

It’s not about people…I just have to get all of this shit out of my brain and into the world, because I can’t live like this.

When can we, the masses, expect some more new music from you?

Who knows…They keep saying, “EP here, EP there, EP 2013, EP 2014!” Nobody knows what to do with me. I have a really solid stack of music at this point, (and) one day I’ll leak it and disappear into The Amazon! Or, the shopping site…Amazon Prime is that shit — I never have to leave my house! They even deliver groceries now.

What has been your greatest achievement so far?

Uhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh…Fuck it, I don’t know!

If you could collaborate with any one artist, living or dead, who would it be and why?

I don’t care about working with people, I’m in love with Stitches! Have you seen his shit? He has an AK-47 on his face, and I think that’s my kinda guy. My best friend Tom started getting tattoos on his face, and they are nowhere near as cool as Stitches’. I’m sorry Tom. We’ve been not that close since we lived together, but we used to talk about the world together…Here are Stitches and Tom:

If you could play any venue in the world, which one would you choose and why?

I don’t know venues, but Stitches’ song is still playing from when I grabbed it and…

I PUT THAT BRICK IN YO FACE, NOW WHAT YOU GON DO WITH IT.

YOU BETTA HAVE MY MONEY WHEN I COME TO COLLECT, PAY UP,

ALWAYS ON THE SCENE WHYS THE BLOOD ON MY CLOTHES…

I LOVE SELLING BLOWWWWWWWW

I LOVE SELLING BLOWWWWWWWWWWWWW

I LOVE SELLING BLOWWWWWWWWW!

One track of yours that you think defines you and why?

Well, I don’t know about THAT, but this song by Young Thug is really great, because I can’t tell if he’s actually special or not, and I don’t ever want to know:

Is there anything I left out, or just plain forgot to mention, that you’d like to point out at this given time? Any “parting” message(s) for our readers?

I LOVE SELLIN BLOWWWWWW!
