Cousin Stizz One Night Only

Cousin Stizz is a youthful visionary, at age 25 the Boston native displays a reserved forcefulness in his voice.  He’s your favorite rappers favorite rapper.  Inside the immediate buzz  behind his LP, One Night Only, Cousin Stizz has a story to tell.  Cousin Stizz began his rap career, painting the raw but sullen picture of the Boston streets.  Originally a member of the Pilot Nation rap group, which was hungry to make a name on the scene.  Stizz may be the first emcee to transform Boston, and put the city on the map.  Cousin Stizz is a cypher rapper.  After his indie release of Suffolk County in 2015, Stizz was signed to RCA records in 2017.  His sophomore LP Monda, released in 2016, was a dedication to Damone Clark, a childhood homeboy, who’s life was lost in a battle with cancer.  Stizz received his moniker at the age of 12 from neighborhood friends, they eventually adapted it after certifying, Stizz acted like everyone’s cousin. Hence Cousin Stizz became his rap name.

Stizz has been promoted in a lane with rappers like Vince Staples, Dizzy Wright, and Denzel Curry.  Stizz’s albums transcend as viscid vinyl backpack rap with desolate scenic background beats.  Backpack rap is a form of underground often, low-barred, that combats mainstream rap with it’s attention to lyrical detail.  An unconventional perspective of hip hop, in which words matter.  The sedated vibrations of Cousin Stizz are rare in a climate of flashy, noisy trap rap.  Inspired by 90’s or golden era rap, Stizz has dominate punchlines and metaphors.  His serene lyrical content has been cosigned by the likes of Drake and Mac Miller.

This LP is different, Stizz’s record deal is allowing him to talk money, it is a wavy supersonic appeal.  Stizz enticed fans by releasing single “All-Star” prior to the album drop.  The 13-track album has a feature from Off-set of Migos fame, on track “Headlock,” and borrows from the groups familiar use of ad-libs and FX.  “Neiman and Barneys” is a track about the good life. Which adds to G-Eazy’s endless catalogue of collaborations.  G-Eazy recently announced new album, The Beautiful and Damned.  “Pull up” is a G-funk inspired track that allows California rapper, Buddy to shine.  Buddy was discovered and signed in 2011 by Pharell Williams.  “Lambo” is a rare track for Cousin Stizz who went from dreaming of money matters as a struggling artist to flossing. Similar tracks include “Paid” and “No Ice” a hyper-real wordplay on coming from the bottom.

The production of the album includes Tee-Watt the Richmond, Virginia who made the album somewhat cohesive, and has produced for Tory Lanez and Rob Stone.  The Canadian monster Wondagurl, and Dun Deal who produced “Raf,” performed by Asap Rocky.  Rap’s best kept secret, VInylZ, also majorly contributed.  Dave Sava6e is among others who also laid tracks for Stizz.  On a notable track, Stizz teams with fellow Boston rapper Big Leano as the two attempt to conquer the scene.  As Stizz holds the Boston globe, he brings youthful energy to the East Coast rap game, perhaps the world is his.
