Houston Rockets’ Chris Paul Grants Local Teenage Girl and Hurricane Harvey Victim a Christmas Wish & Shopping Spree

Late last month, NBA-star Chris Paul of the Houston Rockets took part in fellow (former) NBA player Baron Davis’ #DearBlackSanta campaign with the award-winning non-profit organization Get Schooled.

The campaign launched December 7th within the Get Schooled community asking young people to write to Black Santa telling him what they wish they could give those around them to give them to improve their current standing during the holidays.  Submissions were sent through www.getschooled.com or on social media using #DearBlackSanta and tagging @getschooled.

Genesis, a sophomore at Jane Long Academy in Houston, and victim of Hurricane Harvey wrote this letter into Black Santa last month winning her the grand prize.

“Dear Black Santa, our family was greatly affected by hurricane Harvey. My dad has been rebuilding our house on his own. I wish to give him a new pair of jeans.”

Not only did she receive the jeans, Genesis met NBA star CP3, at a local Target, where he personally gifted her with her grand prize, as well as a private shopping spree around Target with other children and exclusive photo ops.

Nearly 1,000 young people, like Genesis, shared their lists with Black Santa to date asking for everything from coats for the homeless to a spa day for their mother who works tirelessly to pay for her children’s education.
