Staff Pick: ‘The Art & Science of Respect’ a Memoir by James Prince (J.Prince)
Dr. William Harrison, The Hype Magazine Senior Director of Business Development, called me out of the blue extolling the book The Art & Science of Respect by music industry stalwart James Prince aka J.Prince founder of Rap-A-Lot Records, one of the first and most successful independent rap labels ever to do it. Who ISN’T familiar with the name J.Prince if you are in touch with the music industry on any serious level?! While we have watched from the outside, looking at his successes and impact on the world of music, most famously with one of the undisputed kings in the game right now Drake, getting an insight into the mind of the man is an amazing opportunity.
With over 3 decades in the business and responsibilities that include daily duties for several royal houses in Uganda and Ghana as their US-based representative, Dr. Harrison is pretty unflappable and quite the insightful and respected mind in his own right. For him to pull my coat to this particular tome meant something quite special was going on!

Staff Pick: Dr. William Harrison
“Beginning with its opening book forward by renowned artist, Drake, The Art & Science of Respect A Memoir by James Prince, continues with chapters lined in verbal declarations of rugged determination; while sprinkled with reminders of love for his family and for the craft known as the business of music.
With my thirty plus years of behind-the-scenes industry experience, the pages were a compelling way of sharing a wealth of knowledge regarding never losing focus and facing your challenges as an igniter of inward motivation.
James Prince (J. Prince) definitely scores a win with his memoir. Although I do not often utilize a rating system, I would have to truly give this book 5 stars.

About The Book
For decades, serial entrepreneur James Prince presided over Rap-A-Lot Records, one of the first and most successful independent rap labels. In his memoir, he explains how he earned his reputation as one of the most respected men in Hip Hop. By staying true to his three principles of heart, loyalty, and commitment, and an unwavering faith in God, he has defeated many adversaries. Whether battling the systemic cycle of poverty, record label executives, boxing promoters, or corrupt DEA agents, Prince has always emerged victorious. Respect isn’t given, it’s earned. In recounting his compelling life story, Prince analyzes the art and science of earning respect – and giving respect – and how to apply these principles to your own life.
