Recording Artist Tay Releases New Track “Clarity”

New Orleans raised singer/songwriter J.T. Bridges, a.k.a. Tay, released his new track “Clarity”, the first release and intro from his upcoming EP A&A.

In “Clarity”, Tay continues a narrative first begun in his EP, Butterflies & Bees. His music follows the story of his own struggle with mental health. He tackles themes of emotional detachment, depression, and heartbreak, using an astral aesthetic in branding as a metaphor for not feeling ‘of the Earth’. Butterflies & Bees was representative of escapism and avoidance reflected by the dreamy-pop elements present in the music. “Clarity”, however, is representative of facing the truth. Tay is evaluating his life and relationships and gains a sense of certainty; despite countless changes and personal developments, he still harbors many negative feelings about himself and his direction in life. With vocals complimented by nothing but a guitar, Tay surrenders his sincerity and vulnerability in this track.

Tay’s music is a blend of R&B, neo-soul, and pop. While Butterflies & Bees explored more pop-like elements, his upcoming EP A&A will include a more ambient and moody experience, emphasizing lyricism, tone, and atmosphere rather than traditional song-structure. His smooth vocals combined with Gavin George’s soothing production brings out true passion, creating a cathartic experience for those who face similar struggles.

Tay finds influence in music that takes him elsewhere. He is particularly interested in artists that deviate greatly from the norm in order to produce their own sound. These influences include that of Michael Jackson, Musiq Soulchild, Stevie Wonder, and Lauryn Hill, as well as more contemporary artists like Frank Ocean, Lou Val, Sonder, and Daniel Caesar.

Tay will be releasing A&A in the coming months- keep your ears open.
