Jangly pop outfit Family Jools release bolshie number ‘She’s A Mother’

Akin to Gram Parsons’ self-dubbed “Cosmic American Music” – an amalgam of country, rhythm and blues, soul, folk and rock music, while carrying the spirit of the 70’s pop-rock scene in the UK, FAMILY JOOLS have already been compared to some of the greats. The Band, the sound of Classic Northern Soul, Big Star and many others have been used as sonic comparisons by many critics attempting to classify their impassioned live shows. With nods from Steve Lamacq (BBC 6 Music), John Kennedy (Radio X) and Charlie Ashcroft (Amazing Radio) the Bristolian jangly pop outfit now add to their succession of singles, releasing ‘She’s A Mother’.

The three-piece strut through their impassioned first single of 2019, mastering melodies with slick Italian-suit instrumentation that rings through a technicoloured mix. At the bridge, the outfit climax emphatically as frontman George repeats with a Wayfarer sunglasses dissent; “keep your bed, keep your taste, watch this space”.

Family Jools expand on the single; “The line goes ‘She’s a mother, sister and her brother’ I knew a girl and met her family and found she was exactly the same as her sister and her brother. Same face, same aura. I know that family look like each other of course, but in this case it was a special kind of similarity. Almost like the same person repeated.”

Directed by Paul Brooking of Reggie London, he wanted the visual to “capture a sixties feel and to weave a story around the intriguing character of the song.”

Brooking elaborates on some of the setting choices and general story also; “with some careful cropping of scenes around Brixton Market and the use of Pop Boutique in Covent Garden we were able to indulge in a psychedelic fisheye-lens-daydream about these scam artists who end up being a victim of their rogue accomplice.”
