0Melodic NYC Rapper LUCKY! Releases New Single “Shaquira”
New York City-based rapper, LUCKY!, released his latest single “Shaquira”. Produced by Clipsmoke with lyrics by LUCKY!, the song tells a complicated love story through the mosaic of rap, pop, and R&B elements that makes up LUCKY!’s unique musical style. With “Shaquira”, LUCKY! Brings a level of emotional depth to an otherwise upbeat track decorated with electronic compositions and a sick beat.
“Shaquira” finds LUCKY! at a point of conflict in his love life, simultaneously going through a difficult breakup and reconnecting with a toxic ex. The song’s lyrics capture that struggle, as LUCKY! sings “I want you, and you, and you, and you–and only you”, showing him torn between his dedication to one person on one hand and his “player ways” on the other.
LUCKY! (born Luciano F. Reyes) developed a love for music at an early age through playing the trombone, later discovering his rapping chops by freestyling at high school parties and performing around New York. His music career to date has seen multiple phases, starting out in a band with college friend Jordan Sommer from 2012-14. After parting ways with Sommer, he became Lucky Luch in 2015, releasing his first solo single “Love You Better” and going on to open for acts like Joey Badass.
In the face of personal and industry obstacles, he was reborn as LUCKY!, an artist who is comfortable with himself, his voice, his lane, and his sound–with a full catalogue of music at the ready. Drawing influence from artists like Nas, Wiz Khalifa, Drake, Kid Cudi, and Pharrell, LUCKY! creates his signature “romantic rap”, which mixes the subject of love and struggle with humming and crooning.
“Shaquira” follows the release of LUCKY!’s debut EP, LoveBreak, last year. Be sure to keep an eye out for LUCKY!’s future releases. In the meantime, he has a collection of original and remixed tracks available on Soundcloud.
