Modernage deliver their anticipated new single “Sideways”

Miami Indie outfit Modernage has released their highly anticipated new single “Sideways”. Formed by singer Mario Giancarlo, guitarist Xavier Alexander, guitarist/keyboardist Garcia Freundt, bassist Izzy Silva, and drummer Alex de Renzis, Modernage helped ignite the indie scene in Miami in the early 2000s.  With their unique brit-rock meets tropical sound, the band skyrocketed to the forefront of the music scene, going on to tour the east coast, west coast, and Mexico.

“Sideways” release was long in the making, written in part before the band’s two-year hiatus when, in 2017, guitarist Xavier Alexander moved to Hong Kong. Though the move meant the track was temporarily shelved, it was, in fact, this geographical shift that spurned the song’s completion, Xavier being inspired to finish the song with the band after a powerful ayahuasca experience.

Since then, the band has focussed on bridging a connection between these two very distinct places; Miami and Hong Kong. Indeed, their impending music video, set for release in early June, was also heavily influenced by the country. Much of the footage for the video was shot in the abandoned portions of the village Fung Hang, close to the Hong Kong Chinese border on an old iPhone 5.

The reunion of the band has lead to the production of some of their best work yet, exemplified by their latest release “Sideways”. The encapsulates the outfits brand of high energy indie-rock combined with layered, lysergic nuances and soaring melodies. The emotive song was inspired by the depths of depression when one reaches out to ‘the spirit’ in the last ditch effort for healing. The richness of the production and the possessing vocal style of singer Mario Giancarlo allows the track’s deep message to seamlessly lift you up rather than bring you down.
