KaniBeatz gears up for the release of his latest single “Mr Man”, a collaboration with Teni and Joeboy

Splitting his time between London and Lagos, KaniBeatz is a musician with a particular perspective and worldview, allowing him to inject his music with a variety of influences resulting in a wholly unique style. Beginning to release music in 2014, Kani drew from UK influences such as Bonobo to create music with organic samples and creative sounds, backed with an undeniable African rhythmic character. As time progressed Kani began to incorporate sounds from the rapidly expanding Afrobeats scene in Nigeria into his style, culminating in the 2019 announcement of his newest project.

Kicking things off earlier this year with his eagerly anticipated track ‘Ma Lo’, Kani hit the ground running. Teaming up with Brandz and Mista Silva, this sleek track was premiered by UK tastemakers GRM Daily, racking up over 25,000 views. The track has since received regular airplay on R&B/hip-hop radio channel Capital Xtra, KISS FRESH, Rinse FM, Reprezent Radio, The Beat, and Pulse 88. Growing his profile and brand, Kani has also signed up as a brand amabassador for Claudio Lugli, alongside Tyson Fury and many other prominent figures. Now KaniBeatz has teamed up with Nigerian music icons Teni and Joeboy for his next single, “Mr Man”.

“This song is about women’s empowerment, and women’s right to choose what they feel is best for them. This is dedicated to the women of my foundation.”

Setting the scene with undulating synth chords and lush layered percussion, Teni opens up “Mr Man” with an emotive refrain immediately bringing to mind the distinctive afrobeats sound of Nigeria. As the track progresses the production unfurls with a technicoloured sound-palette, while Joeboy and Teni trade verses back and forth, detailing a tale of female empowerment with a passionate tone. The track, though upbeat and groovy, carries a meaningful undertone of women’s rights, with Kani’s inspiration for the track coming in part from his work with disadvantaged women in Bouake, Côté D’Ivoire through his own foundation.

“A lot of music these days tend to objectify women. This song is bringing a different perspective and is putting the ball in the woman’s court instead of vice versa as she tries to find her perfect Man.”

From starting his own record label, to building a recording studio, to working on his debut EP, KaniBeatz has had an incredible year, which is only set to get better as we come into the final few months of 2019.
