Alternative Pop Artist LUMiN Introduces New Sounds For the New Decade With His Latest Single: “The Worst Thing”

Los Angeles based artist LUMiN is kicking off the decade with his sixth single “The Worst Thing” set to release January 24th. Unlike his previous singles, “The Worst Thing” delivers an upbeat synth arrangement that brings a fresh approach to nostalgic sounds, created in part by co-producer Blake Healy of American Pop-Rock band Metro Station. The song introduces a fun, danceable feeling right from the start which serves as a contrast to his somber, self-reflective lyrics. LUMiN’s lyrics lead us through the re-entry of someone in his life who quickly became the worst thing for him. Previous to this, LUMiN considered himself to be his worst influence; meeting his worst enemy however, would quickly restore his faith in himself.

“You are the worst thing that’s happened to me / And I thank you for taking the place that I was saving for me”

The person in question is a typical energy vampire, pitting other peoples demons against them as an open invitation to join in their misery. If you’ve ever met someone who makes you feel trapped, this song is for you. The bouncy, electronic production will lure you in and the relatable lyrics will make you stay until the very end. LUMiN seemed to have reached a state of inner peace until someone came in and shook up his universe; the journey depicts the transition from self-hate and thinking he himself is unhealthy to then realizing that maybe this person is actually the unhealthy one. Making the mature decision to prioritize his mental health, he leaves a bad situation fully knowing that there are better days ahead.

“Please believe me, I would only leave you if I felt like it was necessary for my mental health / And now I’m at a breakthrough, I hate you.”

LUMiN has premiered music on Los Angeles’s own KCRW, followed by headlining shows at LA’s Viper Room, The Satellite, & The Peppermint Club. His previous singles were recognized by Kiss FM and Spotify’s own New Music Friday. Upon joining O.A.R on their Just Like Paradise tour, LUMiN released his fourth single “Bury You Deeper” which was added to the B-Sides by Hits Daily Double. After resigning his publishing to Sony ATV in 2019, he closed the year with the release of his 5th single, mixed by legendary Mark Needham who is known for his work with The Killers, Imagine Dragons, and Fleetwood Mac. This single was followed by his two biggest shows to date, a headlining set at LA’s Troubadour and the first-ever LUMiN’s Bloody Hell-O-Ween at Boardners Hollywood. 2020 is the beginning of a new era for LUMiN. He is starting this decade off strong with the release of “The Worst Thing,” his first music video, and his debut EP “LUMiNADE.”
