After having to postpone his Follow The Leader tour due to the coronavirus pandemic, Azizi Gibson turned to the studio and created an album that encapsulates who he is, right now, in this varied, uncertain world. Reaping The Benefits is hard hitting, but still full of Azizi Gibson’s signature melodies and finessed cadence. Azizi Gibson continues his signature Grim Reaper thematic, presenting himself as a misunderstood character.

Reaping The Benefits opens up with ‘Tear Drops,’ where Azizi questions misconceptions about himself and asserts his power to persevere. The album then takes listeners on a journey from introspective thoughts of solitude and love lost, on ‘Kamikaze’ and ‘I Should Have Cheated’, to boastful moments of confidence and joy, on ‘Super Man’ and ‘Year of the Dog (feat. Tate Kobang)’.

Azizi Gibson is a staple in the alternative hip hop world, first catching interest from Flying Lotus and his Brainfeeder record label in 2013. Receiving critical acclaim for his debut mixtape Ghost in the Shell, Azizi Gibson became one of the most sought after rappers in the LA hip hop scene, collaborating with the likes of DJ Paul, Waka Flocka Flame and THEY.
