ARI’s Worlds Collide in Music Video for New Single “Cold War”
Following the success of her latest release “Oh Well”, 21-year-old singer-songwriter ARI once again shines with “Cold War”, the second single off of her forthcoming EP IDIOTGRL, due out in July.
Representing a dichotomy between her two worlds, “Cold War” tackles ARI’s paranoia as she struggles to blend her personal and musical identity. A Toronto native, ARI (real name Arianna Hicks), finds herself torn between her life back home versus the new challenges that face her as an artist in the States. As insecurities intensify, ARI goes inward, expressing herself through lyrics and melodies that give her strength over her thoughts.
ARI explains: “I tend to keep my worlds separate. I have amazing people that I grew up with in Toronto, as well as a second family in LA that I’ve found through my music journey. I’ve always been scared that these worlds, while coexistent, wouldn’t mix. I have a small circle of friends to begin with, so the thought that the people I love may not get along is a fear of mine. This song is about those worlds colliding and my paranoia of them not being able to exist as one.”
The music video visually depicts these contrasting thoughts as ARI sits stoically in the middle of two different scenes, unable to choose a side. As the song opens with her delicate vocals and gently plucked guitar strings, the chorus transforms “Cold War” into a powerful, impassioned alt-pop anthem that challenges ARI’s deepest demons to a duel.
Emerging onto the scene earlier this year with her debut hit “Nothin but a Monster”, ARI has already amassed over 550K combined Spotify streams, along with a dedicated fanbase eagerly anticipating her EP. Further demonstrating her versatility as an artist with “Cold War”, ARI has only just begun to unveil the power of her musicality to the world.
“Cold War” is now available worldwide across all streaming platforms.Tweet
