BILLBOARD 200

  • Lady Gaga notches her sixth No. 1 album on the Billboard 200 with the chart-topping debut of Chromatica. The set starts with 274,000 equivalent album units earned in the U.S. in the week ending June 4, according to Nielsen Music/MRC Data — the biggest week for any album by a woman in 2020.
  • At No. 2 on the new Billboard 200, Jimmy Buffetlands his highest-charting album in over 15 years, as Life on the Flip Side starts with 75,000 equivalent album units earned (with 74,000 of that sum in album sales). The last time the veteran singer-songwriter (and Margaritaville brand boss) was higher on the list was in 2004, when License to Chill became his first No. 1 when it opened atop the chart dated July 31, 2004. Plus: Anuel AA and Run the Jewels debut in top 10. HOT 100

  • DaBaby‘s “Rockstar,” featuring Roddy Ricch, ascends to No. 1, from No. 3, on the Billboard Hot 100 songs chart, scoring him his first Hot 100 leader. Roddy Ricch adds his second, becoming the first artist to notch his first two Hot 100 No. 1s in the same year since Ed Sheeran, whose “Shape of You” and “Perfect,” with Beyoncé, each secured the top spot in 2017.
  • Plus, SAINt JHN‘s “Roses” rises from 14 to 10 on the Hot 100, marking his first top 10 on the tally and the first artist to notch his first two Hot 100 No. 1s in the same year since Ed Sheeran, whose “Shape of You” and “Perfect,” with Beyoncé, each secured the top spot in 2017. Full story HERE

PROTEST SONGS SEE INCREASE IN STREAMING

  • Protest Songs by Kendrick LamarJames Brown and more are experiencing a streaming increase, in large part due to the debut of Spotify’s Black Lives Matter playlist, introduced in the midst of the #TheShowMustBePaused and #BlackOutTuesday movements. The two most currently popular songs on the playlist both broke a million streams for June 2: Kendrick Lamar‘s 2015 To Pimp a Butterfly single “Alright” and Childish Gambino‘s 2018 Billboard Hot 100-topper “This Is America.” Read the full story HERE

BLACK MUSIC MONTH 2020

  • Every Monday, Wednesday and Friday in June, Billboard will highlight African American artists speaking on today’s climate and offering their suggestions for revision going forward. TDE’s Reason was first at-bat with his take on why he wants America to reconsider the hiring process for cops.
  • And every Monday, Wednesday and Friday in June, Billboard will also be sharing playlists curated by African American artists. Hip-Hop/R&B artist Guapdad 4000, who has donated proceeds from his latest merch drop to several Black Lives Matter organizations, is next up with his picks. Read the full story HERE
