Jutes has released his new single “When You’re Around” via Capitol Records.

A powerful romantic pop ballad, Jutes laments about two misfits finding each other and finding comfort in their shared anguish: “don’t fit in where we’re from / gotta find a new way out / your time is all i want / don’t feel so crazy when you’re around”. The single was produced by two of the most prominent names in pop, M-Phazes is known for his work with Eminem, Madonna and Demi Lovato, and Mitch Allen who has worked alongside Miley Cyrus, Jason Derulo, Jonas Brothers.

Filmed against a backdrop drawn by Jutes himself, the video slowly pans out of a grainy close up of his face, gradually revealing that he is in fact completely naked, with only a guitar to cover his modesty – reminiscent of the classic video for Blink 182’s “What My Age Again”. Also paying homage to the legendary Mark McGrath, the second verse interpolates Sugar Ray’s track “When It’s Over”, another nod to the early ‘00s alternative scene that influences Jutes so heavily.

“When You’re Around” is the second single from Jutes since releasing his Overrated EP on March 5th – Stream Here. Sparkling with modern pop punk edge, Overrated EP is a 7-track glimpse into the genre defying world of Jutes. The Toronto born, Los Angeles based artist shines with straightforward, yet poetic, lyricism that cuts through sharp guitar lines and hard hitting drums. It’s equal parts ‘00s alternative and 2020 pop punk. The EP dominated Spotify’s rock programming, with playlist placements on Tear Drop, All New Rock, New Punk Tracks, New Noise, The Scene, Just Rock, and Ready to Rock. Lead single, “Everyone Knows”, received strong support from AltPressidobi Radio and Beats 1, with a Travis Mills episode dedicated to the single. Jutes has also released his ‘‘Where Are You Going?’’ music video and stripped down versions of tracks “Everyone Knows’’, ‘‘Where Are You Going?’’, and “Back To You.’’ The first single Jutes released following the EP was “Girls” ft. Stay Over, which was released in May to critical acclaim.

“When You’re Around” is available now via Capitol Records.
