Who Is MalikOnMusik?
Pop/R&B musician MalikOnMusik just released his EP, Sparring Sessions on July 9th. The project is a straight ride through no-skips as this young dynamo puts it all on the line for fans with this offering. The Hype Magazine got him to weigh in on a few things as well as getting to catch the EP right as it dropped!
From the outside looking in, who is MalikOnMusik?
Outside looking in, Malikonmusik is just your friendly neighborhood Spiderman. Ha! MalikOnMusik is a young man who is always striving to be greater than what he was told he could be. MalikOnMusik is an artist trying to become a legend.
What brought you to the entertainment industry, music specifically?
Oh nothing really brought me to the music industry more or less, I was engulfed in music my entire life. So, it was an inevitable transition from being a lifelong creative, to an actual performing/recording artist.
What do you want people to get from your music?
The main thing I want people to get from my music is that love conquers all, love yourself, your passions and evolve with them.
Tell us about your current project and what it means for you!
Sparring Sessions is a body of work that came out of thin air, but hits so hard, as if it were something that was planned for a lifetime. We were working on a different project at the time, but this one just came out of nowhere, and it had to be executed. It held so much weight, and so many unanswered questions were being answered by just writing. I had to keep adding on to what I had, and this is what I ended up creating. So epic!
For new listeners, what song of yours would you pick as an introduction to you as an artist?
If I’m being honest, all of my songs are so different, but they hold true to who I am so I can’t really pick. If I had to, I would probably say “Consolation,” “Don’t Think” and “Me And My Musik.” Each of those tracks are just very vulnerable and I love it!
Tell us a bit about your work and passions OUTSIDE of music…
I am an uncle to over 20 rascals and I was even an uncle before I was born, so kids have always been around me. I’ve always felt older in a mental state, despite my age. I’m an older spirit to the people around me. Helping kids and finding the different ways they express themselves is a passion of mine. I just love helping people. Whether it’s homeless ministry volunteering at the hospital, or just helping clean around the neighborhood, I love being active in helping people.
Last but not least, HYPE wants to know…What’s your CRAZIEST “Where they do that at?!” aka WTF?! moment…
Well I have no filter so I have to watch myself BUT one moment of wtf’ness that I just can’t believe was me being a little old young man from philly, getting Grammy considered on my first two tracks. Definitely wtf worthy
