Gianni Lee & Andrea Valle release “Gas”

Alma Mater Records · Gianni Lee, Andrea Valle – Gas

Fine artist/DJ/fashion designer, Gianni Lee, is making his music producer debut with his first official single, “Gas.” Featuring fellow Philly R&B artist Andrea Valle, Gianni hopes the track will amplify the importance of collaboration between Black men and women. “I think a healthy collaboration between strong Black women and strong Black men is needed,” Gianni said. “I believe this release speaks to that, it speaks to friendship, it speaks to the idea of heroism and standing up for what we believe in.” “Gas” also serves as a musical extension of the afrocentric themes that are present throughout Gianni’s visual art and offers a sonic immersion into his post-apocalyptic, deconstructed universe. Illustrated by Serwah Attafuah, the cover art completes the AFROFUTURISM message Gianni hopes to spread through everything that he touches.

“Gas” is the next step in the trifecta Gianni has been trying to create in art, music, and fashion. Music challenges him to use emotion, sound and gut feelings to create these sonic works, and this is the next step in his journey as an artist, he said. Often referred to as “the modern-day Basquiat,” (i-D) the multi-hyphenated artist has been praised by both the art world and cultural tastemakers like VICE, The Fader and Paper Magazine for his surrealist paintings and street art. While his street-art incorporates colorful skeletal figures, his fine art focuses on alien-like subjects to explore the technological, political, social and racial climate in America while depicting the plight of Black people. His permanent street installations are currently on view throughout Paris, London, Bulgaria, New York City, Cuba, Los Angeles and Philadelphia, and his work has been featured in collaborations with brands, including Nike, Fendi, Levi’s, Coach, UGG, Reebok, Kenneth Cole and Kitsuné. Gianni is currently preparing to release a series of limited edition art objects, including a rug and action figure, as well as larger immersive exhibition later this year.
