Dugong Jr Shares His New Single ‘On My Own’

Melbourne based multidisciplinary artist Dugong Jr has shared his new single ‘On My Own’. With its expertly crafted production, the track is another taste of his forthcoming EP Pleasure Principle, out November 13th.

Speaking of the track, Dugong Jr details, ‘The whole idea for On My Own was built off the arpeggiating bassline. It had such a groove to it, so when I was writing it I really just kind of rode it out and started designing sounds to sit around it. The track had such a melancholy feel to it until I added in the piano chords, and then all of a sudden it was kind of straddling a line between a chilled out house track and a late-night R&B track. I guess if you had to describe the sound palette, the vibe I was going for was to create my own interpretation of a track that sits in a space somewhere between Kanye’s ‘Flashing Lights’ and Sade’s ‘No Ordinary Love’.’

Engaging with a sense of scrappy innovation, Chinese/Australian multidisciplinary creative Dugong Jr exudes DIY culture with an extreme attention to detail and originality. A graphic artist and art school graduate, his sound infuses a conscious decision to focus on the gritty and imperfect elements of electronica. The young creative has amassed streams in the tens of millions and performed on some of Australia’s biggest festival stages, garnering support from a long list of renowned industry stalwarts including Diplo, Jai Wolf and Steve Aoki. With three singles now under his belt this year, his Pleasure Principle EP on the way and widespread support from industry tastemakers including BBC 1xtraTriple J and This Song Is Sick, Dugong Jr shows no signs of slowing down.
