Exclusive: How Designers Melissa and Maggie Lima Are Changing Fashion’s Future With Their Brand Susurro 

Being a business owner in 2020 has come with a wide range of challenges, but that hasn’t stopped Melissa and Maggie Lima from adapting, and ultimately thriving. The sisters behind Susurro – the soon-to-be cult-favorite luxury accessory and footwear label – are well on their way to becoming household names. Susurro combines style, elegance, and innovation to handcraft exclusive and breathtaking collections. The brand was birthed after the sisters noticed the lack of diversity in silhouette and style offering for handbags and shoes. When shopping they would often notice the same style being repeated and which limited their choices when looking for items to complement their trendsetting outfits. This fashion frustration motivated Melissa and Maggie to start their own label and create a new norm, in which collections would ‘whisper’ sophistication whilst being vibrant in style and design.

“We wanted to bring change to the fashion industry,” the dynamic duo exclusively tell The Hype Magazine. They’re empowered to break free from the limitation of design offerings, and are committed to maintaining a brand identity rooted in aestheticism as well as emulating class and luxury.

The sisters’ first fashion memory was in Brazil when their mother took them to a seamstress and they witnessed numerous women trying on different outfits that were vivid in color and ultra-glamorous. They loved seeing how everyone at the seamstress’ expressed themselves in their chosen garments, which sparked their interest in the world of fashion. “The ladies looked so glamorous and happy,” Melissa and Maggie recall. “This definitely got our attention.”

When it comes to craftsmanship, the Lima sisters never compromise on quality. Susurro’s collections are handcrafted by the finest artisans in New York: the design process, material selection, and handcrafting all occur in the fashion capital of America. Their brand mission is to “make women feel confident whilst setting trends and to always create “the first’ of everything.” Susurro is an incredibly unique brand because of its designs and silhouettes, and the sisters behind the game-changing company “design to create an impact and set a trend, and this is what makes us so different, as our collections can never be confused for another brand.” 

Susurro has continued to grow and prosper, and Maggie and Melissa contribute their success to their authentic passion and drive for their craft, adn genuine designer to make an impact and instigate regal change in fashion’s future. They explain, “From day one, we have always known that Susurro would be an international brand that impacts not only the fashion industry, but also the lives of many women who build their confidence daily when wearing our products.” Maggie and Melissa also believe that it’s important to maintain determination and integrity, and that is what helped their business succeed – and they believe it will help others as well.
