24kGoldn Brings His New Single “Coco” to Life in an Exclusive Performance as MTV’s Global PUSH Artist for the Month of December

For the past two years 24kGoldn has been climbing his way to the top of the charts and now, with a Platinum-certified hit under his belt and debut studio album “El Dorado” in the works, he finds himself as MTV’s PUSH artist for the month of December. In timing with the debut of his newest single today, 24kGoldn offers a lively performance of “Coco,” as well as chart-topper “Mood,” while catching up with MTV to share the details on how both of these tracks came about, the lyrical meaning behind them and how he strives to make all of his music uplifting, no matter the circumstance.

On the importance of using real instruments to make “Coco:”

  • “We went through kind of a weird phase in music where we had all of this technology available at once and everyone was just like technology, let’s use it all! But people kind of forgot that sound of instruments and those real life sounds, that’s what makes music feel real, that’s what makes you feel it in your soul. We figured out a way that we’re able to combine the wonderful technology we have today to make our life easier but the heart of the song is still those instruments and that real feeling that comes with that.”

On making “Mood” with Iann Dior:

  • “Mood is probably like the most accidental song, so it’s kind of funny to me that it’s the biggest song too. If you listen to the lyrics, it’s not really the happiest song, it’s talking about relationship problems. But the way that we expressed that was so fun, you know, it’s like yeah there are problems but that doesn’t mean that we have to be all depressed and make a super sad sounding song about it. We had so much fun making the song, I feel like people can feel that and you can hear that and feel that when you listen back to it.”

On striving to produce uplifting music:

  • “In my opinion, there’s two types of songs that you listen to when you’re sad. There’s songs that make you feel worse about yourself and kind of go deeper into that sadness, or there are songs that uplift you. I want to make songs that uplift you.”

Throughout the month of December, MTV will roll out exclusive performances, interviews and personalized content to bring fans closer to 24kGoldn across MTV’s on-air, digital and social platforms around the world.
