Rachel Ohnsman Takes Us to Outer Space On Her Latest Album, Moon Songs

“Moon Songs is a collection of some of my most personal songs. It’s a concept album about recovery from trauma, specifically my experience with sexual assault. But it’s more than that, it’s an exploration and a celebration of self.

The songs each contain their own experience within the project, and work together to create a story. There are 8 tracks, one for each moon phase, and each song musically flows into the next, making it a song cycle.”

– Rachel Ohnsman

Singer-songwriter Rachel Ohnsman has truly taken us to the moon and back with her latest album, Moon Songs, chock full of breathtaking atmospheric sounds and soft, ethereal vocals. Every song mirrors each of the moon’s eight phases, signifying her journey through recovery and self-love. Rachel’s latest release acts as a concert of her eclectic style, blending mainstream pop with dynamic electronic musical elements, contributing to her overall uniqueness as a promising upcoming artist.

Ohnsman does not disappoint when it comes to individuality as each track on this album is singular in nature. Listening to Moon Songs is a cathartic experience – her lyrics are so honest and true to real-life experiences accompanied by mesmerizing instrumentals that vary from track to track. Rachel kicks off the album with her track titled “Aphrodisiac (feat. Sohn Jamal)”, featuring melodic piano riffs and a super catchy chorus. Songs such as “Ghost (feat. Nyla Smith)” and “Eclipse (feat. Alex Arnaout)” offer captivating crescendos in which layered vocals and rhythmic drums steal the show. She also shows us a more pop-oriented side to her musical style in her song “Sparkle (feat. Idarose)”, offering a more upbeat vibe while still delivering inspiring lyrics. However, Ohnsman’s special voice shines through on her song, “Found Myself (feat. Daniel Strange)”, a deeply personal account of Rachel’s vulnerability as a person and artist. Her album is sprinkled with different themes, from recovery to healing oneself and coming out stronger on the other side. Each song is representative of metamorphosis into a stronger self and full-circle experiences, doing right by the comparison to the moon’s phases.

Rachel Ohnsman is a soul-pop artist who has always been passionate about music since she was a little girl. Rachel is now drawing from her influences to create original music that is true to herself. Using her real-life experiences to create catchy melodies and honest lyrics, Rachel seeks to create music that is not only true to her life but also relatable to her listeners.
