Kay Nine Tha Boss Discusses the Importance of Owning Your Copyrights

He’s come a long way since his early days. Having grown up in a rough part of Santa Ana, California, rapper Kay Nine Tha Boss is just happy to see another day. Rap truly changed his life for the better. Having started rapping at twelve years old, the creativity is in his blood. It started out as a hobby but quickly turned into a full-fledged career. Using what he went through from his time in gangs, in jail and on the streets, Kay Nine chooses to dedicate his platform as an artist to telling a real story that many can relate to. Having worked with a lot of legendary artists like Spice 1, Tash from the Alkaholiks, Jayo Felony, Ice Cube and Nipsey Hussle, he has been able to use his music to connect with so many people across the globe.

His latest album “Clarity” brings everything full circle for Kay Nine. The project shows off his versatility while still staying true to who the fans grew to know and love. One day, people started reaching out to him about an Action Bronson song featuring Chance the Rapper called “Baby Blue”. People started to compare it to Kay’s song “Try Me” featuring Jayo Felony. For years, Kay Nine would ignore people’s comparisons to the song and simply, wouldn’t pay it any mind. But finally, curiosity won and he would look up the song to see what all of the hype was about. Sure enough, the song sounded extremely similar to “Try Me”. It’s not unheard of for bigger artists to steal from up and coming artists. While Kay Nine wanted to look further into the situation, he instead, chose to leave it alone.

But this kicked into gear his desire to learn about the business side of music. He yearned to tell other artists about his experience in order to help them to take control of their work. He knows that he isn’t alone in this situation and that if circumstances were different, he’d look into it further. This kicked his need to connect with and help other artists into overdrive. From here on out, Kay Nine Tha Boss would use his platform to help inform and uplift other artists who may have experienced a similar situation. But for now now, he is focused on the music. Following the release of “Clarity”, he continues to drop music videos for every single on the album. Stay tuned for more content!
