Paul Hernandez Pens a Love Letter From His Wife With Quick-Hit “I Care”

Vancouver’s Paul Hernandez is an artist you want to keep on your radar. His most recent single release is a track titled “I Care” This song has a unique writing perspective, as it was written from the perspective of Paul’s wife. The song is essentially the wife talking to the artist, going for a more personal and beautiful poetic narrative. Not many artists explore this reverse songwriting perspective where they are not actively singing their thoughts but rather enacting another person’s point of view. Let me tell you, it’s pretty tricky to pull off, and it takes a skilled songwriter to execute it well.

In his new song, Paul did a stellar job. He managed to combine deep atmospheric sonic textures with a distinctive vocal flow. His delivery will make you think of artists such as Juice WRLD and Mac Miller, as he can so seamlessly move from melody to fast-paced flow. The guitar progression massages the production so effortlessly while being hugged by the trap-inspired 808’s. It could almost be described as emo-rap, but this song has got none of the genre’s cliches, especially in terms of lyrics.

The second verse is one of the most powerful moments of the song, especially as the artist kicks off with a very poignant line: “I believe in you, I wish you would see it too.” This song feels like a mantra, an encouragement to be consistent with the promises you make. Paul also stated it’s a ‘lighthearted slap in the face’ to remind you that tough love is still loving, and people who do love you genuinely want to be there to support you each step of the way.

This song is catchy and appealing, the kind that makes you want to play it over and over again. However, it’s also incredibly insightful and personal, giving the audience something more profound than just entertainment.
