Dr. Markesha Miller Enabling Society to Take a Step Forward

The topic of mental health has been the talk for a while now. During the past few years, several campaigns and movements that took place globally have changed stagnant mindsets. People have become more vocal about their condition and have voiced their opinion on the stereotypical culture that nurtured mental illness. This new wave of awareness was majorly backed by the active participation of psychiatrists, psychologists, and mental health experts. It was because of them that this increasing problem was taken notice of. Among them is Dr. Markesha Miller, a licensed and nationally certified psychotherapist. Being a mental health professional for many years, she has devoted massive research to mental health while helping individuals to address mental health issues.

One thing that helps individuals attain mental peace and be confident about themselves is the recognition of their issues. Unfortunately, this is more of a privilege. The fact that social stigmas and typecasting still exist in society is the main cause of the surge in mental health issues. According to Markesha Miller, individuals can start healing if they understand the seriousness of taking care of their mental health. Failure to prioritize mental health can lead to increased health expenses, poor performance at school or work, and increased suicides.

“Putting Mental Health on The Mark”

The absence of the topic of mental health from schools and homes has resulted in confused adults today dealing with multiple mental issues. The fifteen-year court-appointed special advocate (CASA) and frequent lecturer and presenter at conferences, universities, and experts to various media outlets, Dr. Miller, provides appropriate solutions through motivation and positive talk.

As the host of “On the Mark,” Dr. Markesha Miller brings life to significant issues that individuals may face through her ability to connect with her patients. She presents a different perspective to reframe emotional unavailability that later leads to mental health issues. She emphasizes putting mental health as a priority. According to her, physical, spiritual and emotional health are tied to mental health. It means recognizing that one must learn to acknowledge when things are not okay and address them. Dr. Markesha motivates people to embrace those uncomfortable things and learn to use them as a catalyst for change.  “Putting Mental Health on The Mark” is helping the world to learn how to do mental health right.

Say Yes to Positivity

Nearly one in five U.S. adults live with a mental illness, including many different conditions that vary in degree of severity, ranging from mild to moderate and severe. This is the number of reported cases receiving help. Surely, there are unreported cases of people struggling with mental health issues as well.

Acceptance, something that society lacks, triggers overthinking and various other things. Dr. Miller believes and has spoken on multiple instances about the importance of acceptance and dealing with mental health. Over the past 18 years, she has published written pieces on multiple issues ranging from multicultural pedagogy to wellness. Through her speaking sessions, Miller motivates her listeners to have a positive approach towards everything. She emphasizes that people should be open to differences and be accepting of them.  Dr. Miller has participated in national, regional, and state-wide presentations on topics ranging from multicultural education issues (undergraduate and graduate students) to examining the various educational, cultural, and environmental issues unique to women of color.
